Rights Day (HRD), also known as International or
World Human Rights Day, is annually observed on 10th December worldwide
to raise awareness about human rights, transcending distinctions of race,
colour, religion, gender, origin, or status.

theme of HRD 2024 is “Our
Rights, Our Future, Right Now”

United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)is an intergovernmental body within the UN system, consisting of 47
members, with the mission to promote and protect human rights worldwide.

MOUNTAIN DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 11

The theme of IMD 2024 is “Mountain
solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation, and youth”

The
origin of IMD can be traced back to Chapter 13 of Agenda
21, titled “Managing Fragile
Ecosystems: Sustainable Mountain Development,” adopted during the
Earth Summit 1992.

DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 11

The theme of UNICEF Day 2024 is “Listen
to the Future”, highlights the importance of listening to children’s
voices to create a brighter tomorrow.

UNICEF initially focused on
providing food,
clothing and healthcare to children affected by World War II.
·
Over
time, it became an integral part of the UN system, gaining permanent status in 1953 and the name was renamed as the United Nations Children’s
Fund (UNICEF).
·
UNICEF’s
exceptional contributions to children’s welfare were recognized and was awarded
the Nobel Peace Prize on October 26 1965.

CIVIL AVIATION DAY 2024- 7 DECEMBER

International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) is observed
every year on December 7 to honour the transformative impact of civil aviation
on global development.

celebrated in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of
the Chicago Convention a historic agreement that set international
standards for aviation.

Theme: “Safe Skies. Sustainable Future”
·
Chicago
Convention (1944)/UN Recognition Signed by 54 nations to establish
international regulations for civil aviation.

It Laid the foundation for the International
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

UN
Recognition : In 1996, the United Nations General Assembly
proclaimed December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day.

UNGA
DECLARES AS WORLD MEDITATION DAY DECEMBER 21
·
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has unanimously
adopted a resolution declaring December 21 as World Meditation Day, co-sponsored
by India and supported by countries like Liechtenstein, Sri Lanka,
Nepal, Mexico, and Andorra.
·
December 21, coinciding with the Winter Solstice
and marking the beginning of Uttarayana.
