1.       ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 7

·         Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) was annually observed across India on 7th December to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women serving in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

·         Kendriya Sainik Board(KSB)is the main government body that creates and runs welfare programs for ex-servicemen (ESM) and their families through Rajya Sainik Boards (RSBs)

·         On August 28, 1949, then Defence Minister of India Baldev Singh, established a committee to initiate the observance of AFFD.

 

2.       INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 9

·         The United Nations (UN)’s International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) is annually observed across the globe on 9th December aims to spread awareness about the negative impacts of corruption and the role of the UN Convention on combating and preventing corruption.

·         The theme of IACD 2024 is “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”.

3.       HUMAN RIGHTS DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 10

·         The United Nations (UN)’s Human Rights Day (HRD), also known as International or World Human Rights Day, is annually observed on 10th December worldwide to raise awareness about human rights, transcending distinctions of race, colour, religion, gender, origin, or status.

·         The theme of HRD 2024 is “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now

·         United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)is an intergovernmental body within the UN system, consisting of 47 members, with the mission to promote and protect human rights worldwide.

·         Headquarters– Geneva, Switzerland

·         Established – 2006

 

4.       INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 11

·         The United Nations (UN) International Mountain Day (IMD) is annually observed on 11 December worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of mountains to life and highlight the importance of mountain development.

·         The theme of IMD 2024 is “Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation, and youth”

·         The origin of IMD can be traced back to Chapter 13 of Agenda 21, titled “Managing Fragile Ecosystems: Sustainable Mountain Development,” adopted during the Earth Summit 1992.

 

5.       UNICEF DAY 2024 – DECEMBER 11

·         The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Day is observed annually on December 11th to mark the creation of UNICEF by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Ludwik Rajchman on 11th December 1946.

·         The theme of UNICEF Day 2024 is “Listen to the Future”, highlights the importance of listening to children’s voices to create a brighter tomorrow.

·         UNICEF initially focused on providing food, clothing and healthcare to children affected by World War II.

·         Over time, it became an integral part of the UN system, gaining permanent status in 1953 and the name was renamed as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

·         UNICEF’s exceptional contributions to children’s welfare were recognized and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on October 26 1965.

6.       INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION DAY 2024- 7 DECEMBER

·         International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) is observed every year on December 7 to honour the transformative impact of civil aviation on global development.

·         First celebrated in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention a historic agreement that set international standards for aviation.

·         2024 Theme: “Safe Skies. Sustainable Future”

·         Chicago Convention (1944)/UN Recognition Signed by 54 nations to establish international regulations for civil aviation.

·         It Laid the foundation for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

·         UN Recognition : In 1996, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day.

 

7.       UNGA DECLARES AS WORLD MEDITATION DAY DECEMBER 21

·         The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has unanimously adopted a resolution declaring December 21 as World Meditation Day, co-sponsored by India and supported by countries like Liechtenstein, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mexico, and Andorra.

·         December 21, coinciding with the Winter Solstice and marking the beginning of Uttarayana.
