1.       SUBROTO CUP INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

·         The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, a premier inter-school football competition, celebrated its 63rd edition in 2024.

·         This prestigious event, participants from both India and abroad, held in New Delhi.

·         The 2024 edition saw participation from school teams representing Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka in the U-17 Boys category

·         In final Manipur’s TG English School emerged victorious with a 4-3 win in the shootout.

·         They defeated Meghalaya’s Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School

·         The tournament is Named in memory of Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee

·         It was Established in 1960

 

2.       OCA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

·         Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, India’s Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, announced India’s bid for the 2030 Youth Olympics during his speech at the of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) 44th General Assembly  in New delhi

·         India will compete against Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for hosting rights.

·         This bid is seen as a precursor to India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics.

 


3.       ACE CHALLENGER SQUASH TOUR 2024

·         Velavan Senthilkumar, a top-seeded Indian squash player, won the ACE Challenger Tour 2024.

·         He defeated Noor Zaman of Pakistan in the final.

·         The tournament was held in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

 

4.       TIME’S WORLD’S BEST COMPANIES 2024

·         TIME magazine’s World’s Best Companies of 2024 list has brought significant recognition to Indian businesses, highlighting their growing influence on the global stage.

·         This prestigious ranking, which includes 1000 companies worldwide, features 22 Indian-born enterprises this year

·         Top 3 companies in world are  Apple, Accenture and Microsoft

·         HCL Tech leads the pack among Indian companies, securing the 112th position globally.

·         Infosys and Wipro follow closely, ranking 119th and 134th respectively.

·         Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, stands at a commendable 646th position.

·         The Adani Group, despite recent controversies, maintains a strong presence at 736th place.

·         Axis Bank leads the banking sector at 504th place.

 

5.       GLOBAL CYBERSECURITY INDEX 2024

·         India has jumped to Tier 1 in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), when it comes to role-modeling as part of the country’s cybersecurity commitments and resulting impacts.

·         With a rank of 98.49, India is one of the 47 countries that has been adjudged as a leading nation which has demonstrated commitment to robust cyber security practices.

·         Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, United States, Iceland, Greece, Sweden, Portugal, Qatar, Norway, Turkiye, United Kingdom and a total of 47 countries make it to the list of Tier 1 countries.

 

6.       BEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD 2024

·         In a new survey which is called “Best countries for 2024” it is found that Switzerland was crowned as the best country in the world.

·         Switzerland achieved this fate in the third year successively.

·         This survey has included 89 countries for the results.

·         This year India drops three positions with respect to last year to 33.

·         India’s highest ranking was in the field of ‘movers’ (number 7) and heritage (number 10).

·         Japan is at 2nd place and USA at 3rd place

 

7.       EASE OF DOING BUSINESS RANKINGS

·         Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have been recognized as the top performers in promoting ease of doing business under the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP), according to a recent official statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

·         Kerala Ranked as the top performer for promoting ease of doing business.

·         Andhra Pradesh Followed Kerala as the second-best performer.

 

8.       NATIONAL FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE AWARDS 2024

·         The National Florence Nightingale Awards were established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

·         These awards were given to recognize the exceptional services provided by nursing personnel across the country and to honor the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the pioneering British nurse who set the standards for modern nursing practices.

·         The 2024 National Florence Nightingale Awards were presented  to 5- ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife): Recognizing grassroots-level healthcare workers.

·         LHV (Lady Health Visitor): Honoring supervisory nursing personnel.

·         9 Nurse: Acknowledging registered nurses across various specializations.

 

9.       SINGAPORE LITERATURE PRIZE FOR ENGLISH FICTION

·         Prasanthi Ram who was an Indian origin lecturer from the University of Nanyang technological University won the Singapore literature prize for English fiction

·         She won the prize for her short story -’Nine Yard Sarees’ and it was her debut work which was published at the end of year 2023.

 

10.    UNITED KINGDOM-INDIA INFRASTRUCTURE FINANCING BRIDGE 

·         The United Kingdom (UK) and India have launched the UK – India Infrastructure Financing Bridge (UKIIFB), a new initiative aimed at enhancing their financial and professional services collaboration.

·         The UKIIFB agreement was signed between the City of London Corporation Limited and NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in London, UK.

·         The UKIIFB was announced as an objective during the 12th India- UK Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) held in New Delhi

 

11.    SEBI COMMITTEE ON LISTING OBLIGATIONS AND DISCLOSURES

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has set up a 22-member advisory committee to streamline the rules for listing obligations and disclosures.

·         The Advisory Committee on Listing Obligations and Disclosures (ACLOD) will be chaired by Rama Subramaniam Gandhi, a former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

·         The committee will provide advice to SEBI on disclosure requirements, listing and post-listing obligations, harmonisation, and corporate governance.

·         The SEBI was established as a non-statutory body on 12th April 1988, and as a statutory body on 30th January 1992.

12.    GSDP GROWTH AMONG 10 LARGEST STATES IN FY24

·         According to latest data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Telangana, Tamil Nadu (TN) and Rajasthan have registered the highest growth in real Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) among the 10 largest states in Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24).

·         GSDP is an important parameter that measures the total value of goods and services produced within a state, which reflects the robust expansion of these states have achieved.

·         Telangana, the 9th biggest state in India, saw its GSDP growth at 9.2% to reach real GSDP of Rs 7.9 lakh crore in FY24. This growth rate has surpassed India’s GDP growth of 8.2% recorded in FY24.

·         Tamil Nadu (TN) which is the 3rd largest state, saw its GSDP growth at 8.2% to reach Rs 15.7 lakh crore in size.

·         Maharashtra remains to be the largest economy in India, with a real GSDP of Rs 24.1 lakh crore in FY24.

 

13.    9TH MEMBER OF BRICS NEW DEVELOPMENT BANK

·         Algeria has been authorised to become the 9th member of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), a Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) established by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) countries.

·         It was announced by Dilma RousseffPresident of the NDB, during the 9th Annual Meeting of the NDB, held in Cape Town, South Africa

·         Algeria became the 3rd Arab country to be integrated with the NDB, after Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

·         The NDB has expanded its membership to include Bangladesh and the UAE in 2021, and Egypt in 2023.

·         In 2021, the NDB also welcomed Uruguay as its Prospective member country, becoming the 1st Latin American country to join the Bank.

14.    DICGC INTRODUCES DAAVA SOOCHAK FOR CLAIM STATUS TRACKING

·         The Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has launched ‘Daava Soochak’ or Claim Status Tracking which is an online tool that allows depositors to track the status of their claims by entering their registered mobile number on the DICGC website.

·         Daava Soochak enables depositors to check the status of claims for banks placed under All Inclusive Directions (AID) after April 1, 2024.

·         DICGC is responsible for reimbursing insured amounts to depositors of failed banks.

·         The insurance limit was raised to Rs 5,00,000 per depositor in February 2020.

15.    UNION BANK OF INDIA JOIN THE PCAF

·         Union Bank of India(UBI) became the first major Indian bank to join the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), which aims to help financial institutions measure and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their investments and loans.

·         This move aligns with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s new draft disclosure framework on climate-related financial risks, which requires banks to report by April 2025 and meet specific climate targets by April 2027.
