1.       NEW PRIME MINISTER OF FRANCE

·         Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has appointed Michel Barnier  as the new Prime Minister (PM) of France.  

·         At 73, Barnier is the oldest of the 26 prime ministers that have served modern France’s Fifth Republic.

·         He will take charge from the outgoing PM Gabriel Attal, who has been serving as the caretaker PM of France following the 2024 Election results.

·         Gabriel Attal has been serving as the PM of France since January 2024.

·         At the age of 34, he became the youngest person and the first openly gay person to serve as French PM.

 

2.       RAMA MOHAN RAO AMARA AS MD OF SBI

·         The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has recommended Rama Mohan Rao Amara for the position of Managing Director (MD) of State Bank of India (SBI) to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Challa Sreenivasulu (CS) Setty as the Chairman of SBI.

·         FSIB is chaired by Bhanu Pratap Sharma, former Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

3.       SEBI BOARD MEMBER

·         The Government of India(GoI) has named Deepti Gaur MukherjeeSecretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), as a Member of the Board of  Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

 


4.       FIRST INDIAN OCA PRESIDENT

·         Raja Randhir Singh (aged 77), a former Indian shooter and veteran sports administrator, has been elected as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for a tenure of four-year (from 2024 to 2028).

·         He becomes the first Indian to serve as President of OCA.

·         He had been serving as the Acting President of OCA since 2021, following the 15-year ban of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah from Kuwait.

·         He was the  first Indian shooter to win gold in the Asian Games (1978).

·         Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) governs sports in Asia and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

·         The OCA General Assembly, its highest decision-making body, includes heads of NOCs from Asia.

5.       ALGERIAN PRESIDENT RE-ELECTED 

·         Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected as the President of Algeria for the 2nd term (2024-2029).

·         As an Independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune won the presidential election by securing 94.7% of the votes.

6.       FIH PRESIDENT

·         Mohammad TayyabIkram is set to become the President of Fédération Internationale de Hockey(FIH- International Hockey Federation) for the second term.

·         He has been serving as the 13th President of FIH since 2022.

·         Ikram, representing Hong Kong and Macau, is the sole candidate for the post of President,

·         The election for the post of FIH President; FIH Ordinary Executive Board Member female and male will be elected during the 49th FIH Statutory Congres in Muscat, Oman

·         In a groundbreaking development, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first person in the world to amass a staggering 1 billion followers across various social media platforms.

8.       TIME 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN AI 2024

·         TIME, the New York (the United States of America-USA)based Magazine, released “TIME 100 Most Influential People in AI 2024”.

·         Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google and Alphabet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Anil Kapoor, Renowned Actor are among leaders from India or of Indian descent featured on the list.

·         The list has categorized the influential people into 4 different zategories namely, Leaders, Innovators,  Shapers and Thinkers.

 

9.       ELON MUSK TO BECOME WORLD’S 1ST TRILLIONAIRE BY 2027

·         According to an Informa Connect Academy report titled “2024 Trillion Dollar Club” Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla Motors and SpaceX , is most likely to become the world’s 1st trillionaire by 2027.

·         As per the report, Elon Musk who is currently, the richest man in the world with total net worth of USD 248 billion to become the world’s 1st trillionaire requires his wealth to grow at an average annual growth rate of nearly 110%.

·         The report estimated that Gautam Adani(USD 111 billion), Chairman of Adani Group (India) will become the 2nd trillionaire by 2028

·         Among 3 women billionaire who are likely to become trillionaire by 2050, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, grand-daughter of Eugène Schueller, founder of L’Oreal, who holds total net worth of USD 85.9 billion, is expected to become a trillionaire by 2040.

 

10.    INDIAN AMBASSADOR TO ICELAND

·         The Ministry of external affairs (MEA) has appointed Mr. R. Ravindran as the next ambassador to Iceland

·         He is currently serving as India’s Deputy permanent representative at the United Nations.

 

11.    INDIA’S AMBASSADOR TO CROATIA

·         Arun Goel has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Croatia, succeeding Raj Kumar Srivastava.

12.    CHAIRPERSON OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

·         Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has been unanimously re-elected as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language.

·         He previously served as the Chairperson from 2019 to 2024.

·         The Parliamentary Committee on Official Language was established under Section 4 of the Official Languages Act, 1963, in 1976, comprising 30 members from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

 

13.     ‘JAL SANCHAY JAN BHAGIDARI’

·         Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi virtually launched the ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ initiative with an outlay of Rs 27 crore was in Surat, Gujarat.

·         This program is a collaboration between the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) and the Government of Gujarat, focuses on water conservation and community participation.

·         The initiative includes the construction of around 24,800 rainwater harvesting structures across Gujarat

·         The ‘Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari’ aims to address water shortages by constructing rainwater harvesting structures in critical regions with community engagement.

·         The initiative seeks to enhance groundwater levels and boost water infiltration by implementing rainwater harvesting measures in the districts of Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad

·         India, with only 4% of the world’s freshwater, faces severe water scarcity, worsened by climate change.
This initiative aligns with ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign’.

·         Jal Shakti Abhiyan(JSA) was launched in 2019 in 1592 blocks in 256 water stressed districts of the country to promote water conservation and water resource management.

·         It was renamed “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” in 2021 and expanded to all over India to promote water conservation awareness among the public.

 

14.    ABU DHABI CROWN PRINCE’S VISIT TO INDIA

·         The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahayan was on a official 2-day state visit to India in September 2024 at the invitation of the Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi.

·         This marks his 1st official visit to India as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

·         The Government of India (GoI) and the Government of the UAE have signed 5 key Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) in various fields including nuclear energy and petroleum

15.    PM E-DRIVE SCHEME FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE REVOLUTION

·         The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme to promote electric mobility in India.

·         The scheme, with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years, aims to expedite EV adoption, improve air quality, and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

·         Rs. 3,679 crore allocated for subsidies to incentivize e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and e-buses, supporting over 28 lakh electric vehicles.

·         Rs. 500 crore dedicated to the introduction of e-ambulances, ensuring safer, more comfortable patient transport with new safety standards.

·         Rs. 4,391 crore has been allocated to procure 14,028 e-buses for nine cities with populations exceeding 4 million and for intercity routes, promoting cleaner mass mobility.

·         Rs. 2,000 crore allocated for installing 72,300 fast chargers across cities and highways, addressing range anxiety among EV users.
