1.       PORT BLAIR RENAMED AS SRI VIJAYA PURAM

·         The Home Minister of India Shri. Amit Shah has announced the decision on renaming the Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Sri Vijaya Puram.

·         Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

·         It is the place that hosted the first unfurling of Tiranga by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

·         In 2023 Government of India named 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees.

·         To honor the memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Ross Islands was renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

 

2.       WORLD’S FIRST ASIAN KING VULTURE CONSERVATION CENTER

·         Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre in Bharivaisi.

·         It is world’s first dedicated conservation and breeding center for the Asian King Vulture, also known as the red-headed vulture.

·         Asian King Vulture is Critically Endangered (IUCN Red List)

·         Scientific Name: Sarcogyps calvus

 

3.       INDIA'S FIRST 'GRAIN ATM' TO ENHANCE FOOD SECURITY  

·         The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Government of Odisha launched India’s first around-the-clock grain dispensing machine, the 'Grain ATM,' also known as 'Annapurti' (Hindi for fulfiller of food), in the state capital Bhubaneswar.

·         Odisha is the first state in India to provide round-the-clock access to the PDS, enhancing convenience and efficiency.

·         The 'Grain ATM' operates 24 hours a day, allowing beneficiaries to access public distribution system (PDS) grains at any time.

·         It can dispense up to 50 kilograms of grain within five minutes, reducing waiting times by 70%.

4.       "MISSION MAUSAM" TO ENHANCE WEATHER AND CLIMATE PREDICTION

·         The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved"Mission Mausam" with a significant budget of Rs 2,000 crore over the next two years.

·         This ambitious initiative aims to strengthen India’s capabilities in predicting and responding to extreme weather events and the impacts of climate change.

 

5.       ANUSANDHAN NATIONAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION (ANRF)

·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the first meeting of the Governing Board of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) at his residence.

·         The meeting focused on India's Science and Technology landscape and redesigning research and development (R&D) programmes.

·         The Governing Board decided to launch a hub and spoke programme, pairing universities with nascent research capabilities with top-tier institutions for mentorship.

 

6.       132ND ANNIVERSARY OF VIVEKANANDA’S CHICAGO SPEECH

·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s landmark speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago, delivered in 1893.

·         Chicago Speech Gained international fame in 1893 for his address at the World’s Parliament of Religions, promoting Hinduism and universal brotherhood.

·         He Authored influential books and speeches on spirituality, including “Raja Yoga” and “Karma Yoga.”

·         He Co-founded the Ramakrishna Mission

 

7.       1ST INTERNATIONAL SOLAR FESTIVAL 

·         Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister (PM) of India virtually addressed the two-day first International Solar Festival (ISF) 2024 which was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi

·         The solar energy capacity of India has increased 32-fold in the last 10 years.

·         It has set a target to achieve 500 Gigawatts (GWs) of non-fossil power capacity by 2030.

·         The ISF 2024 was organised by the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

·         The ISA is an initiative launched by India and France at the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) in Paris, France to promote solar energy and support the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

8.       NEPAL BECOMES 101ST FULL MEMBER OF INTERNATIONAL SOLAR ALLIANCE

·         Nepal has become the 101st country to join the International Solar Alliance(ISA) as a full member.

·         In June 2024, Paraguay became the 100th full member of ISA.

·         ISA’s ‘Towards 1000’ strategy targets mobilizing USD 1 trillion investments in solar energy by 2030, providing clean energy access to 1 billion people, and installing 1 terawatt (TW)/1000 Giga Watt (GW) of solar energy capacity.

9.       BRICS LITERATURE FORUM 2024 IN RUSSIA

·         India took part in the BRICS Literature Forum 2024, which began in Kazan, Russia

·         It focused on theme “World Literature in the New Reality: Dialogue of Traditions, National Values, and Cultures.”

 

10.    2ND ASIA-PACIFIC MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE

·         Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, inaugurated the 2nd Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation (APMC) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi

·         Shri Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu’s nomination as Chairman of the APMC after being nominated by Singapore and recommended by Bhutan.

·         India’s airport infrastructure has expanded from 74 operational airports in 2014 to 157 in 2024, with plans to increase this number to 350-400 by 2047

·         International civil aviation organization (ICAO) has set the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

 

11.    PM NARENDRA MODI’S VISIT TO BRUNEI AND SINGAPORE

·         Narendra Modi, Prime Minister (PM) of India was on a 3-day visit to Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in September 2024.

·         He started the 1st leg of his visit with Brunei at the invitation of Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

·         This marks PM Modi’s 1st visit as well as 1st-ever bilateral visit by an Indian PM to Brunei Darussalam.

·         PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new chancery premises of the Indian High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

·         Leaders of both countries sign and MoU on Cooperation in the operation of Telemetry, Tracking and Telecommand (TTC) Station for Satellite and Launch Vehicles.

·         PM Modi concluded his two-nation visit by visiting Singapore  at the invitation of Lawrence Wong, PM of Singapore.

·         India and Singapore signed 4 key agreements on semiconductors, digital cooperation, health care and medical research; and education and skill development.

12.    79TH UNITED NATIONS (UN) GENERAL ASSEMBLY

·         The United Nations General Assembly provides an opportunity to member states a unique forum for multilateral discussions on international issues, this year 79th session of UNGA started on 10th September.

·         Philemon Yang from Cameroon is the new president of UNGA this year.

·         Antonnio Guterres is the UN-secretary General.

·         External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is now expected to address the General Debate on September 28

 

13.    1ST COUNTRY TO APPROVE POPULAR ELECTION OF JUDGES   

·         Mexico became the first country to allow voters to elect judges at all levels.

·         The reform was driven by outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who criticised the judiciary for favouring political and economic elites.

·         The reform affects judges at all levels, including local, high-level, and Supreme Court judges.

14.    INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST FIRES AGNI-4 BALLISTIC MISSILE

·         India successfully launched an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) called Agni-4 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in ChandipurOdisha.

·         Agni-4 is the 4th missile in the Agni series.

·         It was designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

·         The Agni-4 is a long-range, surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 4,000 kilometers (km), capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

·         It is equipped with an indigenous-built ring laser gyroscope with a Micro Inertial Navigation System (MINGS), achieving 100 meters (m) accuracy.

 

15.    CSL LAUNCHED INS MALPE & INS MULKI

·         Kerala based Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) launched 2 indigenously designed and constructed Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water-Crafts (ASW-SWCs) named the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Malpe and INS Mulki built for the Indian Navy (IN).

·         CSL, incorporated in 1972, is a Schedule B and Category- I Miniratna Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW)

·         The Mahe Class of Ships will replace the in-service Abhay class ASW Corvettes of the IN.

·         The ships are designed to fit indigenously developed, state-of-the-art Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONARs) for underwater surveillance.

·         These ships are designed to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO), and mine-laying operations, including subsurface surveillance.

 

16.    20TH INDIA - US MILITARY EXERCISE ‘YUDH ABHYAS‘

·         20th edition of the India-United States of America (USA) Joint Military Exercise ‘YUDH ABHYAS’ held at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan.

·         Exercise YUDH ABHYAS has been held annually since 2004. 

 

17.    EXERCISE KAKADU 2024

·         Exercise Kakadu 2024, the 16th edition of the biennial exercise led by Royal Australian Navy(RAN) and supported by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is being held in Darwin, Australia

·         The Indian Navy(IN)’s P8I aircraft, led by Captain Ajay Kanwar, has arrived in Darwin, Australia, to participate in Ex Kakadu 2024.

·         Ex Kakadu 2024 is being held under the themeRegional Cooperation through Trusted and Proven Partnerships”.

·         The exercise involves over 3,000 personnel from 32 nations and features 13 warships, a submarine, over 10 aircraft including maritime patrol units and unmanned systems.

 

18.    FIRST PHASE TRIALS OF LIGHT TANK ‘ZORAWAR’

·         Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the preliminary automotive trials of the Indian Light Tank, Zorawar.

·         Zorawar was developed by DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd

 

19.    INDIA-OMAN JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE AL NAJAH V

·         Fifth edition of the India-Oman joint military exercise, Al Najah, will take place at the Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman.

·         Al Najah has been held biennially since 2015, alternating between India and Oman.

·         The previous edition was conducted in Rajasthan, India.

20.    INDIAN ARMY & IAF SIGN MOU WITH GATI SHAKTI VISHWAVIDYALAYA

·         This collaboration aims to enhance the logistics capabilities of personnel and align with national development plans such as the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and the National Logistics Policy 2022

·         Located in Vadodara, Gujarat, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya is India’s first university dedicated to transportation and logistics.

·         It is Sponsored by the Ministry of Railways

 

21.    1ST BASE MODULE OF BHARATIYA ANTARIKSH STATION BY 2028

·         The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch the 1st base module of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), India’s 1st space station, by 2028.

·         The BAS will have 5 modules.

·         The entire station with a mass of about 52 tonnes is expected to be fully assembled in space by 2035.

·         The first module with a mass of 9186 kilograms (kg) robotic module will lack human re-entry capabilities.
This will be the smallest of all the 5 modules, which can fit into Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM Mk-3 or LVM-3).

·         LVM-3, is a 3-stage launch vehicle and the new heavy-lift launch vehicle of the ISRO.

·         LVM3 will be capable of placing a maximum of 4-tonne class satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbits (GTO), and 10 tonnes to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

22.    INDIA’S 1ST EARTH OBSERVATION SATELLITE CONSTELLATION

·         Nibe Space Private Limited (NSPL), a subsidiary of Nibe Limited, has announced plans to set-up India’s 1st multi-sensor, all-weather, high-revisit Earth Observation Satellite Constellation (EOSC) at an event held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

·         It aims to promote India’s defence and space capabilities while promoting self-reliance in the strategically important defence-space sector.

23.    US OPEN TENNIS 2024

·         Jannik Sinner of Italy (World No. 1) won the Men’s Singles title of the US Open 2024 by defeating Taylor Fritz of the United States of America (USA)

·         Jannik Sinner, the current World No. 1, made history by becoming the first Italian man in the Open Era to win the US Open men’s singles title.

·         Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka won the Women’s Singles title by defeating USA’s Jessica Pegula in the finals.

24.    MOEEN ALI RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET

·         England’s Cricketer Moeen Ali has retired from international cricket.

·         He made his international debut in 2014 against West Indies and he has played 138 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 92 T20 Internationals (T20Is), and 68 Tests.

·         He scored 6678 international runs (including 8 centuries, and 28 fifties), and picked 366 wickets for England across the three formats.

·         His 204 Test wickets made him the third-best England spinner in the format, after Derek Underwood (297) and Graeme Swann (255).

 

25.    4TH INTERCONTINENTAL CUP FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

·         The 4th Intercontinental Cup men’s football championship concluded with a stunning victory for Syria, as they defeated the defending champions India with a decisive 3-0 score in the final round-robin match

·         The tournament, held at the GMC Balayogi Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana

·         The All India Football Federation (AIFF) organized this year’s Intercontinental Cup, which saw participation from three teams: India, Syria, and Mauritius.
