SEBI LAUNCHED INDIA’S
1ST WEB PORTAL FOR PASSIVE FUNDS AT NSE;
·
Madhabi Puri Buch,
Chairman, SEBI launched India’s first website for passive funds at the National Stock
Exchange (NSE), to facilitate a comprehensive
platform for retail investors and enable
them to easily access information and understand the Indian passive
industry.
·
As per the website, Nifty indices served as
the benchmark for 145 ETFs listed in India and 16 ETFs
listed abroad as of 31st March, 2024.
·
The website also shows that as of June 2024,
the cumulative AUM of passive funds is Rs
10.22 lakh crore, of which Rs 7.79 lakh crore AUM of
ETF and remaining Rs 2.43 lakh crore AUM of index fund.

SEBI
CONSIDERS MEASURES TO CURB RETAIL TRADING SURGE IN FUTURES AND
OPTIONS
·
The Securities and Exchange Board of India
(SEBI) has proposed a series
of near-term measures to prevent speculative trading, such as
gambling in index derivatives, which include
curbing multiple option contract expiries and increasing the size of options
contracts.
·
SEBI proposed that the minimum contract size for index derivative
contracts must be revised in two phases:
·
Phase 1: Minimum
value of derivatives contract at the time of introduction to be between Rs15
lakhs to Rs20 lakhs
·
Phase 2:
After six months, the minimum value of the derivatives contract will be between
Rs20 lakhs to Rs30 lakhs.
·
The SEBI also proposed weekly options contracts to be
provided on a single benchmark index of an exchange and brokerages to
collect option premiums on an upfront basis from their clients.
·
It has also proposed an increase in margins on near-term expiry.
·
The SEBI has proposed a
series of short-term measures to curb
speculative trading in index derivatives (futures & options).
·
Futures and options are two
fundamental types of derivatives in financial markets.
·
They are financial contracts that derive their value from the performance of
an underlying asset, such as stocks, commodities, currencies, or indexes.
·
These instruments are used for hedging risks, speculating on
price movements, and gaining leverage in financial markets.
·
A futures contract is a standardized agreement to buy or sell
a specific quantity of an asset at a predetermined price on a specific
future date.
·
An options contract gives
the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call option) or sell (put option) an underlying asset at a
specified price (strike price) before or on a specified date.
·

4. EXERCISE KHAAN QUEST 2024
·
The 21st edition of
Exercise ‘Khaan Quest(KQ24)’, a multinational
peacekeeping exercise, held at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
·
The exercise KQ24 features approximately
430 participants from 23 countries, including India, Australia,
Canada, China, Japan, Turkiye, the United States of America (USA), and the
United Kingdom(UK).
·
The Exercise Khaan Quest(KQ) started as a bilateral event between the
United States of America (USA and Mongolian armed forces in 2003
·
Khaan Quest evolved into a multinational
peacekeeping exercise in 2006.
·
The Indian Army(IA) contingent
comprises 40 personnel from the Madras Regiment
Battalion, including one woman officer and two women soldiers.

TIGER DAY 2024 – JULY 29
·
International Tiger Day,
also called the Global Tiger Day is annually observed across the globe on 29
July to highlight the importance of tiger conservation across the
globe.

International Tiger Day was established
during the International Tiger Conservation Forum, a high-level
Tiger Summit held in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 2010.
·
Global Tiger Day is supported and observed by
several worldwide institutions like the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the

It is celebrated to recognize and appreciate Tim Berners-Lee’s
groundbreaking work and vision.
·
There
are 3 components of the web: Uniform Resource
Locator (URL), HyperText
Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and
Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML).
·
In 1989, Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the WWW, with the goal to
create a robust, user-friendly global information system by fusing computers,
data networks, and hypertext while he was employed at Geneva

CRICKETER ANSHUMAN GAEKWAD DIES
·
Former Indian
cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad passed away at the age of
71 after a prolonged battle with blood cancer.
·
In a career that
spanned 12 years, Gaekwad played 40
Tests and 15 ODIs, scoring a total of 2254 runs.
·
He achieved two centuries,
with his highest score being 201 against Pakistan in Jalandhar in
1983.
·
Notably, 1983
World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev also
rallied for monetary support for Gaekwad.
