1.       INDIA’S 500TH COMMUNITY RADIO STATION “APNA RADIO 90.0 FM”

·         Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoI&B), Government of India (GoI) inaugurated India’s 500th Community Radio Station “Apna Radio 90.0 FM” 

·         It was opened at Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Aizwal, Mizoram.

 

2.       RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN’S DURBAR HALL & ASHOK HALL RENAMED

·         Droupadi Murmu, President of India, has renamed the Durbar Hall and Ashok Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan as ‘Ganatantra Mandap’ (Republic Hall) and ‘Ashok Mandap’ respectively.

·         Durbar Hall is the venue of vital celebrations and ceremonies such as the presentation of National Awards.

·         The word ‘Ashok’ implies someone who is free from all sufferings and it refers to Emperor Ashok, a symbol of unity and peaceful co-existence.

·         Rashtrapati Bhavan, was originally known as ‘Viceroy’s House’, became the residence and office of the President of India upon India’s independence.

 


3.       86TH CRPF FOUNDATION DAY – 27 JULY 2024

·         The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Foundation Day, also known as CRPF Raising Day, is annually observed across India on 27 July to commemorate the establishment of the CRPF, India’s largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in 1939.

·         CRPF operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI).

·         CRPF Director General(DG) – Anish Dayal Singh

·         Formed – 1939

 

4.       WORLD HEPATITIS DAY 2024 – JULY 28

·         World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is annually observed across the globe on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver causing severe liver disease and cancer.

·         The annual observance is led by the World Health Organization (WHO).

·         The 2024 theme for World Hepatitis Day is, ‘It’s time for action.’

·         The sub-theme of WHD 2024 is, “Global hepatitis response: Closing the gap toward the 2030 elimination goals“.

 

5.       WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY 2024 – JULY 28

·         World Nature Conservation Day (WNCD) is annually observed across the globe on July 28 to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and natural resources.

·         The theme of WCND 2024 is ‘Connecting People and Plants, Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation’.

 

6.       SRI LANKA WIN THE WOMEN’S ASIA CUP 2024

·         Sri Lankan Women’s cricket team captained by Chamari Athapaththu won their first Women’s Twenty20 (T20) Asia Cup title by defeating the Indian women’s cricket team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, by 8 wickets in the finals of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 held at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

·         Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024, the 9th edition of the tournament, was held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

 

7.       INDIA’S 1ST INTEGRATED AGRI-EXPORT FACILITY PROJECT

·         Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) approves the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority’s (JNPA) project of ‘Development of Export-Import cum Domestic Agricultural Commodity-Based Processing and Storage Facility’ at JNPA in Mumbai (Maharashtra) on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode.

·         This all-in-one agricultural facility worth Rs. 284.19 crore, is India’s 1st integrated Agri-Export facility, aiming to boost India’s agricultural export and import capabilities.

·         JNPA, commissioned on 26th May 1989, is India’s 1st major port operating on a 100% Landlord port with all berths on the Public-private partnerships (PPPs) model.

 

8.       INDIA ASSUMES CHAIR OF ASIAN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CENTRE

·         Rajendra Singh, Member and Head of Department (HoD) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), took over as the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) from China for the year 2024-25 in Bangkok, Thailand.

·         India also chaired the 5th Board of Trustee (BoT) meeting of ADPC in Bangkok, Thailand.

·         ADPC Established in 1986, ADPC is an international organization on Disaster Risk Reduction and climate resilience in Asia and the Pacific region.

·         India and 8 neighbouring countries viz. Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand are the founding members of ADPC.

·         It is headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand and has country offices in Bangladesh, Lao PDR and Myanmar.

 

9.       PRESIDENT OF UN’S ECOSOC

·         Robert Keith Rae (Bob Rae), Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), has been elected as the President of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for one year (2024-2025).

·         This Canada presidency coincides with its presidency of the G7 2025, providing a unique opportunity for Canada to strengthen its global leadership.

·         ECOSOC’s members also elected LokBahadurThapa of Nepal (Asia-Pacific), Krzysztof Szczerski of Poland( Eastern European) and Maritza Chan Valverde of Costa Rica(Caribbean States) were elected as the Vice Presidents representing their respective regions.

·         ECOSOC is one of the UN’s 6 main bodies, responsible for coordinating the work of the UN International Development System. 

·         It has 54 member governments that are elected by the General Assembly for three-year terms.

 

10.    NEW CMD of SIDBI    

·         Manoj Mittal has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) by the Government of India.

·         SIDBI Established: April 2, 1990, under an act of the Indian Parliament.

·         Headquarters: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

·         SIDBI is the apex regulatory body for the licensing and regulation of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) finance companies in India.
