1.        CUSTOMISED GOLD COIN BY GREVIN MUSEUM PARIS

·         The Grevin Museum in Paris, France has honoured Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan with customized gold coins bearing his name and image/likeness, making him the first Indian actor with this achievement.

·         He is only the second Indian to be honored with a coin at the museum after Mahatma Gandhi.

·         The Grevin Museum unveiled his wax statue in 2008.

·         His wax figures are at 14 locations across the world.

·         Shah Rukh Khan will be honored with the Career Achievement Award at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland for his outstanding career in Indian cinema.

·         He also awarded “Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters” by the French government for his contribution to the development of Indo-French cooperation in the field of cinema.

 

2.        INDIA’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL JAN AUSHADI KENDRA IN MAURITIUS    

·         External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated India's first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius.

·         The inauguration took place with the presence of Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

·         This event marked one of the initial international visits of S. Jaishankar in his current term.

·         The Jan Aushadi Kendra is a health partnership project designed to provide cost-effective, Made-in-India medicines.

 

3.        RBI SELLS RS 34 BILLION INDIAN BONDS

·         According to a Bloomberg Economics Index, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has sold Rs 34 Billion (USD 406 million) worth of bonds in the secondary market in July, 2024 to absorb excess cash in the banking system.

·         This action followed India’s recent inclusion in JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s  Government Bond Index-Emerging Markets (GBI-EM) in June 2024, which spurred significant foreign investment of over USD 1 billion into Indian bonds within the month​.

·         The RBI sold bonds to manage the excess liquidity resulting from the increased foreign investments to stabilize the financial system by absorbing the surplus funds as RBI added USD 9.7 billion to its reserves.

·         India became the 25th market to be included in the index since its inception in June 2005.

·         It is expected that the Indian bond market will attract an additional USD 20 billion to USD 25 billion in foreign investments over time. This will likely enhance liquidity in India’s banking system.​

 


4.        RBI CANCELS LICENCE OF URAVAKONDA CO-OPERATIVE TOWN BANK, AP

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the Certificate of Registration (CoR) (licence) of Uravakonda Cooperative Town Bank Limited based in Andhra Pradesh (AP), due to inadequate capital and earning prospects.

·         It has failed to comply with the requirements of the Banking Regulation Act 1949.

·         On liquidation, depositors are entitled to claim compensation through the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), up to a maximum of Rs 5 lakh per depositor, subject to the provisions of the DICGC Act, 1961.

 

5.        SIDBI TO ESTABLISH $1 BILLION GREEN FINANCING FUND WITH

·         The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), which received approval of funding of $ 215.6 m from the Green Climate Fund, will create a corpus of $1 billion for ‘financing mitigation and adaptation projects’ (FMAP) of Medium and Small Enterprises (MSMEs).

·         The board of the Green Climate Fund, which is an entity set up by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), approved a $200 million loan and $15.6 million grant for capacity building to SIDBI.

 

6.        CHINA LAUNCHES ITS NEW EARTH OBSERVATION SATELLITE

·         China launched ‘Gaofen-11 05’, a new high resolution optical Earth Observation Satellite (EOS), into space onboard Long March-4B carrier rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center (TSLC) in North China’s Shanxi Province, China.

·         This is the fifth Gaofen-11 high resolution satellite launched to its China High-definition Earth Observation System (CHEOS) constellation.

·         Gaofen-11 05: will be used for conducting land surveys, urban planning, road network design, crop yield estimation, land ownership verification, disaster prevention and mitigation.

 

7.        GOVERNMENT REVIVES INTEREST SUBSIDY UNDER PRADHAN MANTRI AWAS YOJANA (URBAN) 2.0

·         The government has reinstated the interest subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 and allocated Rs 4,000 crore for the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).

·         The Union Budget 2024-25 has earmarked Rs30,170 crore for PMAY-U, marking a 20.19% increase from the previous year's allocation.

 

8.        ADB USD 200 MILLION LOAN FOR METRO RAIL NETWORK  IN NAGPUR

·         The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a USD 200 million loan for the Nagpur Metro Urban Mobility Project, to expand metro rail corridors and enhance transport connectivity in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

·         ADB was established in 1966 and aims for a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific with 68 members, 49 from the region.

9.        ‘THE FUTURE IS NOW’ - THEME FOR 8th IMC

·         Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Ministry of Communications (MoC) unveiled the theme of the 8th India Mobile Congress (IMC) i.e. ‘The Future is Now‘.

·         The theme highlights India’s central role in technological evolution and IMC 2024, which is scheduled for October 15-18 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, Delhi.

 

10.     INS DELHI WINS BEST SHIP OF EASTERN FLEET 2024

·         INS Delhi was recognised as the Best Ship of the Eastern Fleet for its excellent performance and operational achievements.

·         The Fleet Awards Function, held in Visakhapatnam, honoured the Eastern Fleet’s tactical successes over the past year.

·         Best Ship of the Eastern Fleet: INS Delhi

·         Best Ship in the Corvettes, OPVs, and LSTs Category: INS Kavaratti

·         Recognition for Spirit and Versatility: INS Shivalik, INS Sumedha, and INS Sumitra

 

11.     NITA AMBANI RE-ELECTED AS IOC MEMBER

·         Nita Ambani, the founder of Reliance Foundation has been re-elected for a second term as the member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from India

·         She received 100% of the vote at the 142nd IOC session is held in Paris, France.

·         Nita Ambani became the first Indian woman to join the IOC in 2016.

·         Moroccan Nawal El Moutawakel and the Argentinian Gerardo Werthein are elected as the VP of IOC.

·         Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski (Philippines)was also re-elected for a second term to the IOC Executive Board, and Li Lingwei (China) was elected as an EB member.

·         John Coates (Australia) and UgurErdener (Turkiye) are elected as the Honorary Members of IOC.

·         The International Olympic Committee founded by Pierre de Coubertin, is the supreme authority of the worldwide modern Olympic movement which consists of 111 members.

12.     IAF WORLD SPACE AWARD 2024

·         Chandrayaan-3 mission team of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) won the prestigious World Space Award for 2024, presented by International Astronautical Federation (IAF) for its significant contributions to space exploration.

·         The award is given in recognition of the Chandrayan-3, India’s lunar mission historic achievement of soft landing near the lunar South Pole. 

·         The theme for the 75th IAC will be. “Responsible Space for Sustainability”.

·         Chandrayaan-1 was launched in 2008 and Chandrayaan-2 was aimed to land a lunar rover but faced a hard landing in 2019.

·         The mission comprises a lunar lander named ‘Vikram’ and a lunar rover ‘Pragyan’, both were designed to explore the lunar surface and conduct scientific experiments to enhance better understanding of the composition and geology of moon.

·         Besides India, only the US, Russia and China have achieved the milestone of soft landing on the moon.

·         Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi declared that 23rd August will be observed as “National Space Day” every year in India to commemorate the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon.

 

13.     ABHINAV BINDRA AWARDED OLYMPIC ORDER BY IOC

·         Abhinav Bindra, a former Indian rifle shooter, and the 1st Indian to win individual gold at the Olympics, has been honoured with the Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for his outstanding contributions to the Olympic movement.

·         The Olympic Order is the highest award of the IOC, given for exceptional services to the Olympic Movement.

·         Bindra, a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission (AC), is the 1st Indian to receive this prestigious award.

·         Abhinav Bindra became the 1st Indian to win a World Championship Gold in 10-meter (m) Air Rifle Men shooting at the 49th International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSFWorld Championship 2006 held in Zagreb, Croatia.

·         He is India’s 1st individual Gold medalist at the Olympics, securing the gold at the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing, China in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event.

·         He was honoured with the “Arjuna Award” in 2000

·         He was the youngest recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2001 at the age of 18.

·         The Olympic Order Award was established in 1975, it replaced the Olympic Diploma of Merit.

·         International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a not-for-profit independent international organisation established on 23 June 1894.

14.     APC APPOINTS DEEPA MALIK AS SUB-REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR SOUTH ASIA

·         The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) at its 34th Executive Board meeting appointed Dr. Deepa Malik, India’s 1st woman Paralympic medallist, as the sub-regional representative for South Asia.

·         This appointment for the 1st time increases female representation on the APC Executive Board to 5, the highest in its history.

·         Kazuhiro Yagi from Japan appointed as the new Vice President of the APC. 

·         Dr. Deepa Malik is the 1st woman to represent India at international level sports in her category of disability (F-53) and also the first ever Indian paraplegic woman swimmer, biker, and car rallyist.

·         She is India’s 1st female para-athlete to win a Silver Medal in the Shotput F53 category at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a lifetime personal best performance of 4.61 meters.

·         She was honoured with the Arjuna Award (National Sports Award) in 2012; the Padma Shri for Sports in 2017; and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (formerly Rajiv Gandhi KhelRatna Award) in 2019.

 

15.     FRANCE’S ‘OFFICIER DANS L’ORDRE DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES‘  AWARD

·         The French Government has honoured the Indian Curator and Author RahaabAllana with ‘Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters) to recognise his outstanding career as curator of contemporary South Asian photography and his contributions to Indo-French artistic cooperation.

·         Rahaab Allana is a curator and publisher of the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts in New Delhi.

·         Ordre des Arts et des Lettresis an order of France established by the Ministry of Culture in 1957 and supplementary status to the Ordre national du Mérite was confirmed by President Charles de Gaulle in 1963.

·         It is the most significant arts-specific distinction, which honours the personalities who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of arts in France and throughout the world.

·         The award is given at three levels: Commandeur (Commander), Officier (Officer) and Chevalier (Knight).

·         Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia,Raghu Rai, Ebrahim Alkazi, HabibTanveer, Shah Rukh Khan, AishwaryaRai and UpamanyuChatterjee are some of the noted Indian recipients of this honour.

 

16.     THE PARAM VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL

·         President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) to Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi for their exemplary service to the nation.

·         94 distinguished service decorations were presented to armed forces and Indian Coast Guard personnel.

 

17.     GLOBAL MDRT RANKINGS 2024

·         Tata AIA Life Insurance Company Limited (Tata AIA), one of India’s leading life insurance companies, has secured the 6th position (out of the top 100 global companies) in the Global Million Dollar Round Table (MDRTrankings for 2024.

·         Tata AIA registered the largest number of MDRT-qualified Life Insurance Advisors in India with 2584 MDRT-qualified advisors and employees as of 31st December 2023, a 30.64% increase over the previous year.

·         Tata AIA has the highest number of female MDRT qualifiers in India, with 1238 women MDRT advisors, ranking No.1 in India and No. 7 globally.

 

18.     KANTAR’S BRAND INCLUSION INDEX 2024

·         The Brand Inclusion Index (BII) 2024 released by Kantar, a leading marketing data and analytics business, has named Google, Tata Motors, Amazon, Jio, and Apple as the top 5 most inclusive brands in India.

·         The global index lists Google, Amazon, Nike, Dove and McDonald’s as the top five most inclusive brands.

 

19.     UN’S SOFI 2024 REPORT

·         According to the latest United Nation(UN) report titled “State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) 2024: Financing to end hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms”, around 733 million people faced hunger in 2023, which is equivalent to 1 in 11 people (approx. 9%) globally and 1 in 5 in Africa.

·         The theme of  SOFI 2024 is “Financing to end hunger, food insecurity and all forms of malnutrition’’. This year theme draw attention to  achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)2 Zero Hunger.

·         India is home to 194.6 million (19.5 crore) undernourished people, which is the highest in any country in the world.

·         The report mentioned that about 13% of the population of India suffers from chronic undernourishment.
As per the report, between 713 million and 757 million people have faced hunger in 2023, which is nearly 152 million more than in 2019 when considering the midrange of 733 million.

·         This annual report was launched on the backdrop of the Group-20 (G-20) Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty Task force Ministerial held in Brazil, which cautioned that the world is falling significantly short of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 i.e. Zero Hunger by 2030.
