RASHTRIYA RAKSHA UNIVERSITY, NSE IX
& NSEICC SIGNED MOU
·
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), NSE International
Exchange (NSE IX) and
National Stock Exchange International Clearing (NSEICC) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation
in economic and financial security.
·
It also aims
to conduct collaborative research
initiatives, design and implement combined online and offline certification
programs, and support capacity building for students and faculty.
2.
C-DOT SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH
IIT, ROORKEE & MANDI
·
The Centre
for Development of Telematics (C-DOT),
a premier Telecom Research and Development (R&D) center under the
Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, signed
an agreement with the
Indian Institute of Technology(IIT)-Roorkee,
Uttarakhand and IIT Mandi, Himachal
Pradesh, for developing ‘Cell-Free’
6G (6th Generation of wireless technology)
Access Points (APs).
·
Traditional networks use cellular topologies, where each cell is serviced by a single base
station like 4G/5G to service mobile customers.
·
‘Cell-Free’ Massive MIMO (Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output) eliminates cells and boundaries,
deploying several APs across a region to serve many users simultaneously.
·
The 6G project goals are to develop APs for
enabling 6G radio access networks and contribute to the 6G standardization,
drive commercialization, generate Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), and
develop a skilled workforce.
·
Centre for Development of Telematics wasestablished in 1984 as an autonomous
Telecom R&D center of DoT and is a registered society under the Societies
Registration Act of 1860.
·
It is a registered Public-Funded Research
Institution (PFRI) with the Department of Scientific Industrial Research
(DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T).

SUPREME COURT NEW
APPOINTMENTS
·
Justice N Kotiswar Singh,
Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, took oath of office and became
the first judge from Manipur to be elevated to
the Supreme Court.
·
Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court R Mahadevan was
also sworn in as a Supreme Court judge.
·
The oath of office was
administered to both judges by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud at a
ceremony held at the Supreme Court premises.
·
With the swearing-in, the
number of judges in the apex court,
including the Chief Justice of India, has increased to 34.
·
With 34 judges, the
Supreme Court will function until Justice Hima Kohli retires
on September 1, 2024, followed by Chief Justice Chandrachud,
who will retire on November 10, 2024.

‘TRIPUT’, 1ST INDIGENOUS ADVANCED
FRIGATE, FOR INDIAN NAVY
·
Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL),
a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Defence (MoD),
launched GSL Yard 1258 named ‘Triput’, the first indigenous P1135.6 Frigate, for the Indian
Navy.
·
Triput,
a 124-metre-long and 15.5m wide ship, is the first of
two P1135.6 Class Frigates being built at GSL.
·
It is
propelled by four gas turbines and
can achieve speeds of 28 knots with a displacement of around 3200 tons with
advanced state-of-the-art weapons and sensors.
·
The Frigate
is built with indigenous low-carbon
micro-alloy grade steel and is equipped with indigenous power
generating and distribution systems, an Air Conditioning (AC) system, a
steering system, and stabilisers created and produced by the private industry.

WORLD’S TOP 10 LARGEST COAL MINES
·
Gevra Coal Mine and Kusmunda Coal Mine, blocks of Chhattisgarh-based South Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (SECL) have
secured the 2nd and 4th rank in terms of
production volume in the list of the
world’s top 10 largest coal mines released by WorldAtlas.com.
·
Gevra and
Kusmunda produced more than 100 Million Tonnes (MT)
of coal annually accounting for about 10% total
coal production of India.
·
Black Thunder Mine in the United States of America(USA) has been ranked the world’s largest coal mine.
·
With 4
mines, Indonesia dominates the top ten
coal mines list.
·
Globally, China is the largest producer of coal.
·
In 2022,
China accounted for almost 52% of the coal production worldwide.
·
India, the second-largest coal producer, had a global share of over 9%.
·
SECL is one
of the top three coal-producing subsidiaries of CIL, operating under
the Ministry of Coal.

MYANMAR’S ACTING PRESIDENT
·
Prime
Minister (PM) of Myanmar and
Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General
Min Aung Hlaing has assumed the role of Acting President.
·
He will
succeed incumbent Acting President Myint Swe,
who has been suffering from psychomotor
retardation and malnutrition..
·
Hlaing has been the chairman of SAC since February 2021 coup d’état.
·
It is a coup by Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) against the civilian
government, declaring the results of the November 2020 general election
invalid, and instated a one-year state of emergency.
·
Myanmar has
been under military rule since the 2021 coup.

ASSAM'S 700-YEAR-OLD AHOM
MOIDAMS NOMINATED FOR WORLD HERITAGE STATUS
·
Assam's 'Moidams,' the mound burial system of the Ahom
dynasty, will be considered for
inclusion in the World Heritage Sites list at the 46th session of
the World Heritage Committee.
·
Assam already boasts of
two world heritage sites in the natural category - Kaziranga
National Park and Manas National Park.
·
India host this session
for the first time at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
·
Currently, 1,199
properties from 168 countries are on UNESCO's World Heritage
list.
·
The World Heritage
Committee, consisting of representatives from 21 States Parties elected by
their General Assembly of UNESCO, meets once a year

ESTONIA’S PRIME MINISTER
·
President of
Estonia Alar Karis swore
in Kristen Michal, Chairman
of the centrist Reform party, as the
New Prime Minister (PM) of
Estonia.
·
He
succeed KajaKallas, who
resigned as of Estonia PM on 15th July 2024 to become the High Representative
of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union
(EU).

9.
INDIAN NAVY RESCUES 9 CREW
MEMBERS FROM CAPSIZED OIL TANKER
·
The Indian
Navy’s warship INS Teg rescued 9 crew members, including 8
Indians, who went missing after an oil tanker capsized off the coast of Oman.
·
The Comoros-flagged oil tanker MV Prestige Falcon
had a total of 16 crew members, including 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans.
·
The tanker capsized about
25 nautical miles southeast of RasMadrakah.
·
The vessel was en route
to the Yemeni port city of Aden.
·
INSTeg and a P-8I
maritime patrol aircraft have been deployed for the search and
rescue operation.
10. AZERBAIJAN
LAUNCHES CLIMATE FINANCE ACTION FUND
·
Azerbaijan, the host of COP29(Conference of the
Parties) climate summit,
launched the ‘Climate Finance
Action Fund (CFAF)’ to support green projects in developing countries
and help to maintain the 1.5°C temperature target.
·
The aim is
to raise USD 1 billion from
fossil fuel-producing countries and companies.
·
The fund
will be based in Baku,
Azerbaijan with a secretariat and board including contributors and an
independent audit committee.
·
The COP29
will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from
November 11-22, 2024.
·
CFAF will
mobilize private sector investment, de-risk funding, and provide concessional
support for natural disaster response.
