1.       UEFA EURO 2024

·         Spain won the 17th edition of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Football Championship, commonly referred to as ‘UEFA Euro 2024 or Euro Cup’ by defeating England (2-1) in the finals held at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.

·         UEFA Euro 2024 hosted by Germany 

·         Spain won the Euro Cup for the record 4th time.

·         Spain previously won the title in 1964, 2008 and 2012.

·         Six players shared the Golden Boot award, each scoring three goals:

 

2.       COPA AMERICA FOOTBALL 2024

·         Argentina won the title of the 48th edition of the Copa America (Copa America 2024) by defeating Colombia in the finals held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida, USA.

·         Copa America 2024 hosted by the USA

·         This marks Argentina’s 16th title of Copa America. with this, Argentina became the tournament’s most successful team, followed by Uruguay (15) and Brazil (9).

·         Copa America 2024 is the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship organised by the South American Football Confederation

 

3.       WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF LEGENDS 2024

·         Indian Champions team led by Yuvraj Singh won the inaugural edition of the World Championship Of Legends (2024) by defeating the Younis Khan-led Pakistan Champions team by five wickets during the finals held in Birmingham, England.

·         The World Championship of Legends (also known as Ease My Trip World Championship of Legends) is a T20 tournament played by retired international cricketers.

·         The tournament witnessed the participation of Six teams: England, Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies.

·         Player of the Match(Finals)– Ambati Rayudu (India)

·         Player of the Tournament– Yusuf Pathan (India)

·         Most runs– Shoaib Malik(Pakistan) – 245

·         Most wickets– Nathan Coulter-Nile (Australia) – 9

 


4.       SAUDI ARABIA TO HOST FIRST OLYMPIC ESPORTS GAMES IN 2025

·         The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) signed a 12-year deal to host the First Olympic Esports Games 2025 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

·         This partnership is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to transform the nation’s social and economic landscape.

·         Saudi Arabia will also host the 2027 Asian Cup in Men’s football, the 2029 Asian Winter Games and the multi-sport 2034 Asian Games in Riyadh.

 

5.       BTS JIN TO CARRY 2024 PARIS OLYMPIC GAMES TORCH

·         BTS member Kim Seokjin also known as Jin became the 1st ever Korean singer or K-Pop idol who carried 2024 Paris Olympic Games torch to the Louvre Pyramid Museum in Paris, France.

·         The Olympic torch was 1st lit in Olympia, Greece on 16th April, 2024 and is expected to reach Paris on 26th July, 2024 for the opening ceremony of 2024 Olympics.

·         2024 Paris Summer Olympics will commence on 27th July, 2024 and will continue till 11th August, 2024.

·         This year Paris Olympics will host over 15,00 athletes from 206 different countries competing in 329 events across  32 sports.

 

6.       ISSF JUNIOR WORLD CUP IN ITALY

·         India’s Sabeera Haris clinched the bronze medal in the women’s trap event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup held in Porpetto, Italy.

·         Carey Garrison of USA won Gold

 

7.       IMO AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL BRAVERY AT SEA 2024

·         International Maritime Organisation (IMO) announced the winners of the 2024 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea.

·         The two Recipients of the 2024 Award are,Captain Avhilash Rawat and the crew of the oil tanker Marlin Luanda, nominated by the Marshall Islands, Captain Jorge Fernando Galaviz Fuentes and the crew of the tugboat Pemex Maya, nominated by Mexico.

·         IMO honoured Indian Navy’s Captain Brijesh Nambiar and the crew of the Indian Navy Ship (INS) Visakhapatnam with a Letters of Commendation. 

·         IMO is one of the specialized agencies of United Nations (UN) and is responsible for regulating and formulating policies for international maritime.

·         The IMO Convention entered into force in 1958.

·         India joined the IMO as its member state in the year 1959.

8.       PAT TILLMAN AWARD 2024

·         Prince Harry has received the Pat Tillman Award 2024 for Service at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards in Los Angeles, the United States of America (USA).

·         He was honoured in recognition of his The Invictus Games Foundation, a platform for sports competition for wounded, injured, and sick service men and women.

 

9.       GOLDEN SAND MASTER AWARD 

·         Sudarsan Pattnaik (Odisha), Indian Sand Artist has won the Golden Sand Master Award with a gold medal at the International Sand Sculpture Championship/Festival 2024 held in St. Petersburg, Russia. 

·         The International Sand Sculpture Championship, had a theme of ‘History, Mythology, and Fairy Tales’.

 

10.    COSPAR 2024 AWARDS

·         Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) announced the winners of 2024 COSPAR Awards during the 45th COSPAR Scientific Assembly which is being held in Busan, South Korea

·         Two Indian Scientists Prahlad Chandra Agrawal and Anil Bhardwaj were among the winners of the 2024 COSPAR Awards.

·         Prahlad Chandra Agrawal was honoured with the COSPAR Harrie Massey Award and Anil Bhardwaj was honoured with the Vikram Sarabhai Medal, a joint award of COSPAR and the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO).

·         The award recognise outstanding contribution to space research and scientists working in any of the fields covered by COSPAR.

·         Harrie Massey Award honours the memory of Sir Harrie Stewart Wilson Massey, FRS, an Australian mathematical physicist,the award recognise the outstanding contributions to the development of space research in which a leadership role is of particular importance.

·         Vikram Sarabhai Medal recognise the outstanding space science research in developing countries.

·         COSPAR is the world’s first scientific body dedicated to promoting global cooperation in space research.

11.    NEW PRIME MINISTER OF NEPAL

·         Khadga Prasad (KP) Sharma Oli Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) (CPN-UML), took oath as the Prime Minister(PM) of Nepal

·         This marks his 4th term as PM of Nepal.

·         He was appointed to the post by Ram Chandra Paudel, President of Nepal.

·         He also becomes the first PM of Nepal to be appointed following the 1st general election under the new constitution of Nepal.

·         He Succeeds Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda

 

12.    PRESIDENT OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

·         Roberta Metsola of European People’s Party (EPP), was re-elected as President of the European Parliament for another two and a half years, until 2027.

·         She became the first woman to win a second term as the President of the European Parliament, the directly elected legislative body of the European Union(EU).

·         She was the third woman to take charge as the President of the European Parliament, after Simone Veil (1979-1982) and Nicole Fontaine (1999-2002).

·         EU legislation doesn’t have a permanent, single-person president.

·         Its work is led by the country holding the Council presidency, which rotates every 6 months.

13.    PRESIDENT OF RWANDA

·         Paul Kagame has been re-elected as the President of the Republic of Rwanda for the fourth five-year term from 2024 to 2029.

·         He has been serving as the President of Rwanda since April 2000.

·         Kagame led the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), political party and won the 2024 presidential election by securing 7,099,810 votes (99.15%) of the total 9,071,157 votes.

·         The Republic of Rwanda is a landlocked country in East Central Africa and it is known as the land of a thousand hills.

·         Capital – Kigali

 

14.    LITHUANIAN PRESIDENT

·         Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda was sworn in for his second five-year term at a ceremonial event held at the Lithuanian Parliament, the Seimas.

·         NausÄ—da, a 60-year-old economist, was re-elected in May, 2024.

·         He won against SimonytÄ— in the second round of presidential elections.

 

15.    CO-CHAIR OF GLOBAL CEO CLIMATE LEADERS ALLIANCE

·         Sumant Sinha, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Renewable energy solutions provider ReNew Energy Global PLC (ReNew) has been appointed as co-chair of Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders in the world.

·         Sinha is a founding member of the Forum’s First Movers Coalition and currently serves as Board Chair of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), Colorado, the United States of America(USA).

·         It is a flagship initiative of World Economic Forum (WEF) which was launched in 2014.

·         It is the largest CEO-led climate alliance in the world.

·         It aim to form an influential network of business leaders from various industry sectors and regions to support and implement climate action by setting ambitious targets and taking collective efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

·         The Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders represents USD 4 trillion in revenues and 5.2 Gigatonne (GT) of carbon emissions, equivalent to 10% of global emissions.

·         ReNew which has been a member of the Alliance since 2019, is recognized for its commitment to net-zero targets and innovative decarbonization solutions.

·         It is specially recognized for achieving a 1.5 degree Celsius aligned science-based target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with a target of net zero by 2040.

 

16.    SAMVIDHAANHATYA DIWAS-JUNE 25

·         The Ministry of Home Affairs(MoHA), Government of India (GoI) declared June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas(Constitution Murder Day)’ to honour the struggles and sacrifices of individuals who opposed the abuse of power during the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister (PMIndira Gandhi in 1975.

·         Starting from 2025, the Day will be annually observed on 25 June to commemorate the Emergency that suspended the Constitution of India in 1975.

·         1975 Emergency in India: President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared a state of emergency on the advice of PM Indira Gandhi,It was the darkest hour for democracy in post-independent India.

·         Officially, the 21-month-long Emergency was issued under Article 352 of the Indian Constitution, to control “internal disturbance.”

·         It involved the suspension of constitutional rights and the freedom of speech and the press withdrawn.

 

17.    WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY 2024 – JULY 15

·         The United Nations (UNWorld Youth Skills Day (WYSD) is annually observed across the globe on 15 July to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

·         The theme for WYSD 2024 is, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development.”

·         The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training is one of 8 UNESCO institutes/centers working in the field of education, and the only organisation working to promote the UN mandate through TVET.

·         The acronym UNEVOC is a combination of ‘UNESCO’ and ‘vocational education’.

18.    DAY OF INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE 2024 – JULY 17

·         Day of International Criminal Justice is annually observed across the globe on 17 July by the International Criminal Court (ICC), to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute in 1998, the founding treaty of the ICC.

·         The treaty of the Rome Statute of the ICC (Rome Statute) was adopted on 17 July 1998 by the UN Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries (UNDCP) held in Rome, Italy.

·         This treaty, the legal basis for establishing the ICC was adopted by 120 States.

·         At the first Review Conference of the Rome Statute held in Kampala, Uganda in 2010, the States Parties of the ICC decided to commemorate 17 July as the Day of International Criminal Justice.

19.    NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL DAY 2024 – JULY 18

·         The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Nobel peace prize winner (1993) Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the former President of South Africa.

·         18th July 2024 marks the 106th birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela. He was born on 1th8 July 1918.

·         The 2024 theme of Nelson Mandela International Day is “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity”.
