1.       GOLDEN PEACOCK AWARD FOR SAFETY EXCELLENCE

        L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd. (L&TMRHL) has received the Golden Peacock Award (GPA) in the Transportation (Railways) category for Excellence in Occupational Health & Safety (GPOHSA)

        The award was given at the “Institute of Directors’ (IOD) 25th International Conference on Environment Management and Climate Change-2024” in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

 

2.       INDIA CHOOSEN AS PARTNER NATION FOR HUMAN SPACE FLIGHT PROGRAMME

        United States of America (USA)-based Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) in partnership with Blue Origin, the company owned by Jeff Bezos (Founder of Amazon) announced India as a “Partner Nation” in their human spaceflight programme for citizens from countries who have sent a few or no astronauts to space.

        Under this strategic partnership, SERA will offer citizens from across the world 6 seats on a future mission of New Shepard, Blue Origin’s reusable suborbital rocket.

        Besides India, Nigeria, and the Maldives will each be allotted a seat on the mission of Blue Origin. 

        The mission will celebrate the historic achievement of the first Nigerian citizen to embark on a space voyage.

        New Shephard rocket will fly the selected astronauts on an 11-minute journey past the Karman line, the internationally recognised boundary line of space i.e. 62 miles or 100 Kilometers (km) above the Earth.

        In May 2024, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket system under the mission named New Shepard-25 (NS-25) lifted off with 6 crew members including one Indian from launch site one in West Texas, the United States of America (USA).

 

3.       ICC MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP 2024

        India men’s national cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, won the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Twenty20 (T20) World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa (The Proteas), captained by Aiden Markram, by 7 runs in the finals held in the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

        This marks India’s 2nd T20 World Cup title. 

        India previously won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup held in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh (MS) Dhoni.

        India's ICC trophy cabinet now contains six titles. It has won the ODI World Cup twice (1983, 2011), the T20 World Cup in 2007 and 2024, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 and 2013.

        Virat Kohli was declared the Player of the Match award for his fabulous innings.

        Pacer Jaspreet Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Tournament.

        India became the 3rd Country to win the title twice after England(2010 & 022) and West Indies (2012 & 2016).

        Virat Kohli became the first-ever cricketer to score 3,000 runs across both 20-over and 50-over Cricket World Cups.

        After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Indian Cricketers, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & RavindraJadeja have announced their retirement from T20 International(T20I) cricket.

        The 10th edition of ICC T20 World Cup will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

4.       VISWANATHAN ANAND WINS 10TH LEON MASTERS TITLE

        Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand, the 15th World Chess Champion, has won the 37th edition of the Magistral Tournament “Ciudad de Leon” (Leon Masters) by defeating the Grand Master (GM) Jaime Santos Latasa of Spain (3-1) in the Finals.

        The tournament was held in Leon, Spain.

        This win marks Anand’s 10th Leon Masters title and his previous triumphs were in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2016.

 

5.       CHIEF JUSTICE OF JHARKHAND HC 

        Justice Dr Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi the senior most judge of the Orissa High Court (HC), was appointed as the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Jharkhand HC. 

        He is set to take over from the Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, who has been serving as the Acting CJ (ACJ) of Jharkhand HC since 29th December 2023.

 

6.       CENTRE RECONSTITUTES 8 CABINET COMMITTEES

        The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government reconstituted 8 Cabinet Committees of the Union Cabinet after being sworn in for the record third consecutive time.

        There are a total 72 members of the Union Council Minister, including the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

        Of which 31 are of Cabinet rank and they are part of the newly reconstituted Cabinet sub-committees.
Six committees,out of 8 will be headed by the PM and the remaining one will be headed by the Home Minister and other by the Defence Minister.

        The eight Cabinet Committees are: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), Cabinet Committee on Accommodation (CCA), Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), Cabinet Committee on Investment and Growth (CCIG), and Cabinet Committee on Skill, Employment and Livelihood.

 

7.       “GLOBAL INDIA AI SUMMIT” -NEW DELHI

        The Government of India (GoI) hosted the “Global IndiaAI Summit”  at Bharat Mandampam, New Delhi

        The summit was organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), GoI.

        The summit was mainly focused on advancing AI development in key areas which include: Compute Capacity, Foundational Models, Datasets, Application Development, Future Skills, Startup Financing, and Safe AI.

        These all are 7 key pillars of India Ai Mission.

8.       SAMPOORNATA ABHIYAN CAMPAIGN

        NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) launched the ‘Sampoornata Abhiyan’, a 3-month campaign, with an aim to achieve 100% saturation of 12 key social sector indicators across all Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks (6 each).

        The SampoornataAbhiyan’s launch events were organised across all the 112 Aspirational Districts and 500 Aspirational Blocks across India.

9.       GLOBAL COSTLIEST CITIES- MERCER REPORT

        According to the Mercer’s latest ”Cost of Living City Ranking 2024” report, Mumbai (Maharashtra) emerged as the costliest city in India

        Overall, Mumbai has secured 136th spot in the report, up by 11spots compared to 2023.

        Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region (SAR) (China), Singapore (Singapore) and Zurich (Switzerland) ranked at 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot respectively, emerged as the world’s top3 Costliest Cities in 2024 for 2nd consecutive year.

        As per the report, Abuja, Nigeria (226th), Lagos, Nigeria (225th ) and Islamabad, Pakistan (224th ) are the top 3 least expensive cities in the world.

 

10.    10TH MEMBER OF SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANISATION

        The Republic of Belarus officially became the 10th permanent member of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defence organization.
Belarus became a dialogue partner in the SCO in 2010 and an observer state in 2015.

        The G. Kishan Reddy: China, Russia, India, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

        Kazakhstan took over the chairmanship of SCO from India in July 2023.

        The Republic of Kazakhstan, the 2024 Chair of the SCO, hosted the 24th SCO-CHS Summit in Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan

11.    13TH CM OF JHARKHAND

        Hemant Soren, the Executive President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister (CM) of Jharkhand for the 3rd term.

        The Governor, CP Radhakrishnan, administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren at a ceremony organised at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

        Champai Soren resigned as CM of Jharkhand on 3 July 2024, and he was served as Jharkhand’s 12th CM for 5 months since February 2024.

 

12.    ASIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

        The Under-17 (U-17)/ Under -23 (U-23) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 was held in Amman, Jordan.

        The Indian Wrestlers secured 22 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze) in the Under-17 (U-17) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 and 23 medals (9 Gold, 10 Silver and 4 Bronze) in the Under -23 (U-23) Asian Wrestling Championships 2024 in Amman, Jordan.

 

13.    RBI INTRODUCES SAARC CURRENCY SWAP FRAMEWORK

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), with the Government of India’s concurrence, has decided to put in place a revised framework on currency swap arrangement for SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries for the period 2024 to 2027.

·         SAARC has 8 member countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka).

·         Bilateral Swap Agreements : Under this Framework, the RBI would enter into bilateral swap agreements with SAARC central banks, who want to avail of the swap facility.

 

14.    RELIANCE CROSS RS 8 LAKH CRORE MARKET CAP  

·         Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) became the first Indian company to cross Rs 8 lakh crore market capitalisation, racing ahead of Tata Sons' crown jewel TCS by more than Rs 20,000 crore in valuation.

·         RIL stock has gained 85 per cent since the beginning of this year.

 

15.    VISHWA HINDI SAMMAN

·         Dr Usha Thakur was awarded the 12th Vishwa Hindi Samman in a Hindi Samvad event organised by the Embassy of India in Nepal recognising her contribution in development of Hindi literature.

·         She has translated more than 40 literature in Hindi and Nepali and strengthened Hindi language.

·         This award is given by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

·         12th World Hindi Conference was held in Fiji in 2023.

 

16.    WORLD UFO DAY 2024: JULY 2

·         Every year on July 2nd, World UFO Day is commemorated to raise awareness about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) spotted in several parts of the world and alien life forms.

·         In 1561, A broadsheet reported widespread sightings of a celestial phenomenon over Nuremberg.

·         In 1561, the term ‘UFO’ for Unidentified Flying Object was coined by US Air Force officer Edward Ruppelt.

 

17.    GST COLLECTION AT RS 1.74 TRILLION IN JUNE 2024

·         In June 2024, India's GST collection reached Rs 1.74 trillion, marking a 7.7% year-on-year growth, which is lower than previous months' increases (12.4% in April and 10% in May 2024).

·         Cumulative collections for the fiscal year totalled Rs 5.57 trillion.

·         This is the slowest rate of growth in GST collections in three years, with the previous slower pace of growth recorded in June 2021.

 

18.    RBI APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS   

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the appointment of Arnab Kumar Chowdhury and Charulatha S. Kar as executive directors (EDs).

·         Chowdhury will oversee the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), foreign exchange department, and international department.

·         Kar will manage the Department of Communication, Human Resource Management Department, and Right to Information (First Appellate Authority).

 

19.    INDIA CHAIRS 'COLOMBO PROCESS' MEETING

·         India presided over its first meeting as Chair of the ‘Colombo Process’ at the Permanent Representative Level Meeting in Geneva at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Headquarters.

·         The Colombo Process is a Regional Consultative Process comprising 12 Member States from Asia, which primarily serve as countries of origin for migrant workers.

·         In May 2024, India assumed the chair of the Colombo Process for the first time since its inception.

20.    WEAPON SYSTEMS SCHOOL IN HYDERABAD

·         Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari inaugurated the newly established Weapon Systems School (WSS) at Air Force Station Begumpet, Hyderabad.

·         This follows the approval for the creation of a new Weapon System (WS) branch in 2022.
