1.       BRICS FOREIGN MINISTERS MEETING IN RUSSIA

·         India participated in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Foreign Ministers meeting hosted by Russia, the current chair of BRICS, in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. 

·         The meeting was chaired by Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russia.

·         The Indian delegation at the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting was led by Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

·         This also mark’s India’s first Foreign policy assignment under the historic 3rd consecutive term of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

 

2.       IEA’S WORLD INVESTMENT REPORT 2024

·         According to the annual report “World Energy Investment Report 2024” released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global investment in clean energy technology and infrastructure is expected to achieve USD 2 trillion in 2024 which is twice the amount going to fossil fuels.

·         The report projected that total energy investment will breach the mark of USD 3 billion for the 1st time in 2024.

·         The report underlined the clean energy technologies that will receive investments from pool of USD 2 trillion are: renewable, electric vehicles, nuclear power, grids, storage, low-emission fuels, among others and the remaining part of investment will be directed towards gas, oil and coal. 


3.      WEF’S TECHNOLOGY PIONEER 2024 LIST

·         According to the World Economic Forum (WEF’s) Technology Pioneers 2024 listPixxel, Sarvam AI, 

·         Niramai Health Analytix are among the 10 Indian startups which are featured in the list.

·         Majority of these Indian startups are Artificial Intelligence (AI) focused.

·         The list comprises 9 space companies which include Pixxel from India, 4- neurotechnology technology startups and 4 startups in clean technology sector including AmpereHour Energy and International Battery Company from India.

·         The list featured total 100 leading tech startups from 23 countries. About 33% (1/3rd) of these companies were led by Women Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

4.       RBI FORMS COMMITTEE TO SET UP DIGITAL PAYMENTS INTELLIGENCE PLATFORM

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has formed a committee under the chairmanship of Abhaya Prasad Hota, former Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

·         The committee is formed to examine various aspects related to the setting up a digital public infrastructure for Digital Payments Intelligence platform which is proposed by RBI.

·         As per RBI data Domestic payments frauds increased by 70.64%, from Rs 1,526 crore (from October 2022 to March 2023)  to  Rs 2,604 (from October 2023 to March 2024).
The RBI has suggested to revise the definition of bulk deposits from as ‘single rupee term deposits of Rs 2 crore and above’ to the limit of Rs 3 crore and above for commercial banks except, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).

 

5.       EY WORLD ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR 2024

·         Vellayan Subbiah, Executive Vice-Chairman of Tube Investments of India (TII) and Chairman of Cholamandalam (Chola) Investment and Finance Company Limited has been named as the Ernst & Young (EY) World Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 at an award ceremony held in Salle des Etoiles, Monaco.

·         It marks the fourth time, an entrepreneur from India has won this global title in this award’s 24 - year history and also makes India the only country among EY regions to win the global entrepreneurship award four times.

 

6.       CM OF SIKKIM 

·         Prem Singh Tamang, President of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), took oath as the Chief Minister (CM) of Sikkim for the second consecutive term. 

·         Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Governor of Sikkim administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prem Singh Tamang

·         Sikkim Krantikari Morcha won the 2024 Sikkim assembly elections by 31 out of the 32 seats while the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) secured only one seat.

 

7.       VIDYUT RAKSHAK  - INTEGRATED GENERATOR MONITORING

·         The Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has launched ‘Vidyut Rakshak’ and was developed by  Major Rajprasad R S of the Army Design Bureau (ADB).

·         Vidyut Rakshak is an Internet of Things (IOT) enabled integrated generator monitoring, protection and control system.

·         The Indian Army is observing 2024 as the ‘Year of Tech Absorption’

 

8.       UN INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DIALOGUE AMONG CIVILIZATIONS – 10 JUNE 2024

·         The first ever United Nations (UN)’s International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations was observed on 10th June 2024 to raise awareness of the value of the diversity of civilizations and promote dialogue, mutual respect, tolerance, and global solidarity.

·         7th June 2024, the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/78/L.75 by consensus, declaring 10th June of every year as the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations.

 

9.       INDIA RECEIVED INDIGENOUS MAN PORTABLE COUNTER DRONE SYSTEM

·         The Indian Army received indigenously developed first-of-its-kind Man Portable Counter Drone System (MPCDS) designed and manufactured by Bengaluru based AXISCADES Technologies Limited under the agreement worth Rs 100 crore from the Indian Army.

·         It is unique in terms of its portability as it has ability to operate on both battery and mains power.

·         It covers wide range of frequency spectrums such as: Command & Control and Navigation.

·         It is capable to detect and jam different types of drones within a range of up to 5 Kilometres (Kms).

 

10.    TENNIS: FRENCH OPEN 2024

·         Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (21 years old) won the Men’s singles title at the French Open 2024 (also known as Roland-Garros) by defeating Alexander Zverev of Germany in the finals held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

·         World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland won the Women’s singles title at the 2024 French Open defeating Jasmine Paolini of Italy.

·         El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo and Croatia’s Mate Pavic secured the Men’s Doubles title after defeating Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. This is the first Grand Slam title of the pair.

·         Coco Gauff (USA) and Katerina Siniakova (Czech Republic) won the French Open’s women’s doubles title by defeating the Italian pair Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.

·         Germany’s Laura Siegemund and France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin won the mixed doubles title after defeating the two-time Wimbledon Champions Desirae Krawczyk (USA) and Neal Skupski (Britain).

 

11.    ISSF WORLD CUP 2024

·         India won 2 medals (1 gold and 1 bronze) and finished 3rd on the medal tally of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSFWorld Cup 2024 (Rifle/Pistol) held in Munich, Germany.

·         Indian shooter Sarabjot Singh won the gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol category and Indian shooter Sift Kaur Samra won a bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions category. 

·         China topped the medal tally with 11 medals (4 gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze) followed by Norway at 2nd place with 3 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 1 Bronze) and India and France at 3rd place with 2 medals each.

·         ISSF is the governing body of the Olympic shooting events in rifle, pistol and shotgun (clay target) disciplines, and of several non-Olympic shooting sports events.

12.    BILL GATES’ MEMOIR “SOURCE CODE: MY BEGINNINGS”

·         “Source Code: My Beginnings”, a memoir of Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, is set to be published by Allen Lane, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

·         This memoir will focus on his early life, from childhood through the creation of Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975.

 

13.    FIRST-EVER UN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PLAY – 11 JUNE 2024

·         The first-ever United Nations (UNInternational Day Of Play (IDOP) was observed on 11 June 2024 to celebrate the power of play.

·         The day aims to preserve, promote, and prioritise the essential role of play in human development and well-being, especially for children.

·         According to UNICEF’s new estimates  nearly 400 million children under 5 (6 in 10 children) regularly undergo psychological or physical punishment at home globally.

·         About 330 million of these children face physical punishment.

 

14.    WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR 2024 – JUNE 12

·         The United Nations (UNWorld Day Against Child Labour is annually observed across the globe on 12 June to increase awareness about the need to focus on the global extent of child labour and the efforts needed to eliminate it.

·         The 2024 theme of World Day Against Child Labour is, “Let’s act on our commitments: End Child Labour!

15.    UN DECLARES 2025 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF QUANTUM SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

·         The United Nations (UN) has officially declared 2025 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) to increase public awareness globally about the significance of quantum science and its applications.

·         This UN-declared IYQ unites national scientific societies to commemorate 100 years of modern quantum mechanics.

·         The IYQ is a global initiative that aims to strengthen national capacities in the basic sciences and science education.

·         Quantum Science  is a pivotal scientific discipline of the 21st century. It underpins various fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Biology, Information Science, etc.

·         At its core, it helps us understand the physical world, from the tiniest particles to the universe’s structure.

 

16.    WEF’S GLOBAL GENDER GAP INDEX 2024

·         According to the World Economic Forum(WEF)’s Global Gender Gap Report 2024, India closed 64.1% of its gender gap in 2024 with a population of over 1.4 billion and secured the 129th rank among 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Index 2024.

·         Iceland has topped the 2024 Index followed by Finland and Norway in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

 

17.    JIMEX 24: 8TH JAPAN-INDIA MARITIME EXERCISE COMMENCED IN JAPAN

·         Japan–India Maritime Exercise 2024 (JIMEX-24), the 8th edition of bilateral exercise between the Indian Navy (IN) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force(JMSDF), commenced at YokosukaJapan.

·         JIMEX-24: will be conducted in two phases Harbour Phase and Sea Phase
Other bilateral training exercises between India and Japan are DHARMA Guardian– between Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defence Force (JGSDF).

·         Veer Guardian– between Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF).

18.    18TH CM OF ANDHRA PRADESH

·         Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), officially sworn-in as the 18th Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh (AP).

·         He became the CM of AP for the 4th time and 2nd time after the bifurcation of AP in 2014.

·         Renowned Telugu actor and Janasena Party (JnP) President, Pawan Kalyan took oath as the Deputy CM of AP.

·         Andhra Pradesh Governor- S.Abdul Nazeer

·         TDP contested in the 2024 AP assembly election and 2024 Parliamentary elections in alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and JnP under National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

·         The NDA won 2024 AP assembly elections by securing 164 out of 175 seats.

·         TDP emerged as the single largest party with 135 seats while, its alliance partners JnP and BJP secured 21 and 8 seats respectively.

·         It has defeated the ruling YSRCP which secured 11 seats.

·         N.Chandrababu Naidu won the elections from the Kuppam constituency.

·         He became the CM of AP for 1st time in 1995 by replacing NT Rama Rao, Founder of TDP, and remained at this post until 2004. He holds the record of longest continuous term as AP CM which is 8 years and 256 days.

·         He was also the first CM of AP post the bifurcation of Telangana in 2014. He held the post till 2019.

·         Pawan Kalyan won from the Pithapuram constituency in East Godavari.

 

19.    MOHAN CHARAN MAJHI SWORN IN AS ODISHA’S CM

·         Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)‘s Mohan Charan Majhi a tribal leader and a 4-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), took oath as the 15th Chief Minister (CM) of Odisha 

·         Odisha Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath and Mohan Majhi became the first BJP CM of Odisha.

·         Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo  and Pravati Parida, were also sworn in as the deputy CMs 

·         Pravati Parida became 1st woman Deputy CM of Odisha.

·         Former CM Naveen Patnaik is the 2nd longest-served CM of India after Pawan Kumar Chamling, the 5-time CM of Sikkim(1994-2019), who served for 24 years and 165 days.

·         The BJP won a majority of 78 seats in the 2024 Odisha Assembly elections.

·         Majhi secured victory in the Keonjhar Assembly constituency in Odisha.
