RBI IMPOSES MONETARY PENALTY ON ICICI
BANK, YES BANK
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has
imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 crore on ICICI Bank
Limited for sanctioning term loans to certain entities to replace
budgetary resources for specific projects without proper due diligence.
·
ICICI Bank was imposed a penalty for
non-compliance of ‘Loans and Advances – Statutory and Other Restrictions’.
·
The RBI has also imposed a monetary
penalty of Rs 91 lakh on Yes Bank Limited for
multiple violations of banking norms.
·
Yes Bank has violated RBI regulations
by charging fees on accounts with zero balance and opening
internal accounts in customer’s names for unauthorised purposes such as parking
funds and routing customer transactions.

77TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

The 77th annual Cannes
International Film Festival was held in Cannes, France.
·
American comedy-drama film ‘Anora’ directed
by Sean Baker won the Palme d’Or, the highest
honour of the Cannes festival.

"All We Imagine as Light" marks
the first Indian film nominated in 30 years.
·
Indian film ‘All We Imagine as Light’
directed by Payal Kapadia won the Grand Prix, the
2nd highest award of the festival.

She became the first Indian to
win this award.

Santosh Sivan, an
Indian cinematographer and film director, was honoured with the Pierre

DD KISAN LAUNCHES ITS FIRST
AI ANCHORS IN 50 LANGUAGES

Doordarshan Kisan (DD Kisan),
a Doordarshan channel has become the first Indian Government TV channel to
launch two Artificial intelligence (AI) Anchors
AI Krish and AI Bhoomi, which can speak in 50
different languages and provide information about agricultural
research.
·
The AI anchors can read news 24/7
and 365 days without breaks.
·
DD Kisan is the only TV channel in
India, which has been established by the Government of India (GoI) and
dedicated to the farmers.
·
It was established on 26 May 2015.

INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE 2024
·
Kolkata Knight Riders
(KKR) captained by Shreyas Iyer (Indian cricketer) has won the champions
title of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) by defeating
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captained by Pat Cummins (Australian cricketer)
by eight wickets in the finals held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,
Tamil Nadu(TN).

This marks KKR’s 3rd IPL title.
The team has previously won the title in 2012 and 2014 under
the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

TATA Group has secured the title
sponsorship rights of IPL for 5 years (2024 to 2028) for Rs 2500 crore.

ASIAN GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024
·
Dipa Karmarkar has
become the first Indian gymnast to win a gold
medal in the women’s vault apparatus at the Asian Gymnastics
Championships 2024 (11th Senior Women Artistic Gymnastics Asian
Championships) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
·
This is the first time an Indian gymnast
has won a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships.
·
Kim Son-hyang and Jo Kyong-byol of North
Korea finished with the silver and bronze medals respectively.
·
Hu Jiafei of China has topped the
Individual all-around followed by Qin Xinyi of China
and Emma Malabuyo of the Philippines at 2nd and 3rd sport respectively.
·
China topped the Teall All Around
followed by North Korea and Uzbekistan at 2nd and 3rd spot
respectively.

ARCHERY WORLD CUP 2024
·
India won 2
medals (1 gold and 1 silver) in the Archery World Cup 2024
Stage 2 held in Yecheon, Republic of Korea(South Korea).
·
The Indian women’s compound team of
Aditi Gopichand Swami, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur won
the gold medal defeating the Turkish team of Hazal Burun, Ayse
Bera Suzer and Begum Yuva.
·
India’s mixed archery team of
Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh won the silver medal.
They were defeated by Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullivan of the United States of
America (USA) in the finals.
·
India won a total of eight medals including
five gold medals, two silver and one bronze in the Archery World Cup Stage 1
in Shanghai, China.
·
Archery World Cup 2024,
the 18th edition event, is annually organised by the World Archery Federation.
·
This is a five-stage event
which is being held from April to October 2024.
·
The 2024 Archery World Cup Stage 1 was
held in Shanghai, China in April 2024.
·
Stage 2
was held in Yecheon, South Korea in May 2024.
·
The Archery World Cup Stage 3 will
be held in Antalya, Türkiye in June 2024.

India currently ranks first on

MONACO F1 GP 2024
·
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc,
a racing driver from Monaco won the Monaco Grand
Prix (GP) 2024 held at Circuit de Monaco in
Monte Carlo.

With this victory, Charles became
the 1st ever Monegasque driver to win the Monaco
GP in World Championship history, and the 1st since
Louis Chiron in 1931 (the 3rd edition of the race).

·
World Hunger Day is
annually observed across the globe on 28th May to raise
awareness about the condition of millions of people, who do not have access to
proper food.
·
The 2024 campaign theme of
World Hunger Day is, “Thriving Mothers. Thriving World.”
·
World Hunger Day was founded by The
Hunger Project United Kingdom (UK) in 2011 to
highlight the global food crisis.

RBI LAUNCHED PRAVAAH PORTAL
·
Governor of Reserve Bank of India
(RBI), Shaktikanta Das launched 3 major initiatives namely –
Platform for Regulatory Application, Validation and Authorisation (PRAVAAH) portal, RBI
Retail Direct Mobile Application and a Fintech Repository.
·
The main objective of these initiatives
is to enhance regulatory processes, facilitate retail investment and to
provide comprehensive data on the fintech sector.
·
PRAVAAH Portal is
a centralised, secure web-based platform that will allow individuals or
entities to apply online for regulatory approvals, licenses and authorisations
from the RBI.
·
Currently, there are 60 application
forms available on the portal and these forms covers different regulatory and
supervisory departments of the RBI.
·
RBI Retail Direct Mobile
Application will facilitate seamless and convenient
access to retail investors to buy and sell Government-Securities (G-Sec)
directly from their smart phones (available on Android and iOS).
·
It simplifies transactions in
the primary and secondary markets.
·
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das inaugurated
a fintech repository aimed at capturing essential information
about FinTech entities, their activities, and technology uses.
·
The FinTech Repository and EmTech
Repository aim to gather crucial data about FinTech
entities and regulated entities' adoption of emerging technologies.
·
These repositories are secure web-based
applications managed by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), a
wholly-owned subsidiary of the RBI.

6TH HURUN INDIA ART LIST 2024
·
According to the 6th edition of
Hurun India Art List (2024) released by the Hurun Research
Institute on 28th May 2024, British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor topped
the list for the 6th consecutive year.
·
He topped the list due to the robust sales
of his artwork at public auctions, which amounted to Rs 79.9 crore.
·
Arpita Singh, 87 year
old (ranked 3rd ) topped among the female artists in the list
·
Raghav Babbar(27) from
Rohtak, Haryana, ranked at 8th spot, is the youngest Indian
artist in the Hurun India Artist List 2024 with total sales of Rs 12.1 crore.
·
Krishen Khanna (99) is
the oldest Indian artist in the list, ranked 5th with
combined value of his art work Rs 18 crore.

the election held in Delhi.

International Everest Day is
annually observed across the globe on 29th May to commemorate
the first-ever successful summit of Mount (Mt) Everest in 1953 by Sir
Edmund Hillary, a mountaineer from New Zealand, and Tenzing Norgay,
a Sherpa from Nepal.
·
International Everest Day has been celebrated since
2008, following the death of Sir Edmund Hillary on 11th January 2008.

·
According to the 12th edition of Times
Higher Education’s (THE) Asia University Rankings (2024),
Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bengaluru (Karnataka), ranked 32nd
on the list, is the highest ranked Indian institution.
·
The 2024 list features a total of 91
Indian institutions.
·
Tsinghua University (China)
has topped the list for the 6th consecutive year, followed by Peking
University (China) and National University of Singapore (NUS)
(Singapore) at 2nd and 3rd rank respectively.
·
THE Asia University Ranking 2024 ranked 739
universities from 31 countries/regions.
·
With 119 universities, Japan has the
most representation on the 2024 ranking followed by India with 91

DRDO CONDUCTED THE FLIGHT-TEST
OF RUDRAM-II AIR-TO-SURFACE MISSILE
·
Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the fight-test
of RudraM-II, Next Generation Anti-Radiation Missile
(NGARM) from Su-30 MK-I fighter jet of the Indian Air
Force (IAF).
·
This air-to-surface missile was tested at
Integrated Test Range (ITR), Balasore, Off the Coast
of Odisha.
·
It is the latest version of RudraM
– 1 missile, 1st indigenously developed anti radiation
air-to-surface missile was test-fired from Su-30MKI fighter
jet in 2020.
·
It is an
indigenously developed solid propelled air-launched missile system for
air-to-surface to neutralise various types of enemy assets.
·
It can carry a payload of 200 kg and
attain a maximum speed of 6,791 km/h (Mach 5.5).
·
This missile system will replace Russian
Kh-31, anti-radiation missiles currently deployed in Indian defence
system.
·
Indian Army has unveiled an Anti-Tank
Guided Missile(ATGM) system mounted on a farm tractor. This “Jugaad”
(Hindi for ingenious improvisation) innovation is named as Improvised
Tractor Mounted ATGM.

THE ASIAN ARM-WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
2024

The Indian Arm-Wrestling team won a total
of 7 medals (1 gold and 6 bronze) at the 22nd
Asian Arm-Wrestling Championship and 21st Asian Para Arm-Wrestling Championship
2024 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Indian wrestlers’ team was competing
under the banner of the People’s Arm wrestling Federation of India (PAFI).

Chattisgarh’s para-arm wrestler Shrimant
Jha won a gold medal in the left-hand +85 kg para
category and a bronze medal in the right-hand para-senior category.

United Nations (UN)’s first-ever International
Day of Potato was observed across the globe on 30th

environmental, and cultural values of the Potato (Solanum tuberosum), the 3rd
most consumed food crop globally.

The annual observance of
the day is facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations (FAO).

China
emerged as India's largest trading partner with $118.4 billion in two-way commerce in 2023-24, surpassing
the USA.
·
Bilateral trade between India and the US
stood at $118.28 billion in 2023-24.
·
India has a free trade agreement with four
of its top trading partners: Singapore, the UAE, Korea, and Indonesia
(as part of the Asian bloc).

India recorded a trade surplus
of $36.74 billion with the US in 2023-24.

Other countries with a surplus include

India's total trade deficit

21. JAYA BADIGA APPOINTED AS JUDGE IN US COUNTY
SUPERIOR COURT

Indian-American attorney Jaya
Badiga, a certified family law specialist, has been appointed as a Judge
in the Sacramento County Superior Court in the US state of California.

Badiga, born in Vijayawada, Andhra
Pradesh, is the first Telugu woman to be appointed as
a judge in the United States.
22. MILITARY GENDER ADVOCATE AWARD
·
Major Radhika Sen,
an Indian peacekeeper, receives the prestigious Military Gender
Advocate Award for her exceptional contributions during her deployment with the
United Nations Mission in Congo (MONUSCO).
·
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announces
the award, lauding Major Sen as "a true role model" for her
outstanding dedication and service.
·
Hailing from Himachal Pradesh,
Major Radhika Sen served as the commander of the Indian battalion in the
eastern part of the Republic of Congo from March 2023 to April 2024.
23. RBI INDIA FINES HSBC RS 36.38 LAKH FOR FEMA
REGULATION VIOLATIONS
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed
a fine of Rs 36.38 lakh on foreign lender HSBC for Foreign Exchange
Management Act (FEMA) violations.
·
The Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999
(FEMA), is an Act of the Parliament of India "to consolidate and
amend the law relating to foreign exchange with the objective of
facilitating external trade and payments and for promoting the orderly
development and maintenance of foreign exchange market in India"
·
This new Act is in consonance with
the frameworks of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
·
It also paved the way for the Prevention
of Money Laundering Act, 2002 which came into effect on July 1, 2005.
