1.       INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHAIRMAN

·         Harsh Pati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of JK Paper Ltd and Director of JK Organisation, has been elected as the First Vice-Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) headquartered in Paris, France.

·         Philippe Varin (France) has been elected as Chair of the ICC.

·         Shinta Kamdani (Indonesia) and Patrick Obath (Kenya) have been elected as Vice-Chairs of the ICC.

·         ICC is a private business organization that represents over 45 million businesses in over 173 countries.

·         ICC is the apex body for all Chambers of Commerce globally.

 

2.       FICCI- DIRECTOR GENERAL (DG).

·         The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) announced the appointment of Jyoti Vij as its Director General (DG).

·         FICCI President- Dr. Anish Shah

3.       INDIAN NAVY LAUNCHES ‘5TH MCA BARGE

·         The Indian Navy (IN) launched the Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, Landing Ship Ammunition(LSAM 13)(Yard 81), the fifth Barge of 08 x MCA Barge project, built by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Private Limited (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

·         Previously the Indian Navy has launched 4 MCA Barges:

·         Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) – Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi

·         Headquarters – New Delhi, Delhi

·         Founded – January 26, 1950

 

4.       INDIA TO HOST FIH HOCKEY MEN’S JUNIOR WORLD CUP IN 2025

·         India will host the 14th edition of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025.

·         The decision was taken by the Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

·         This will be the 1st time ever that a FIH Hockey Junior World Cup has 24 participating teams

·         India will host the tournament for the 4th time since 2013.

·         India has previously hosted the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup in 2013 (New Delhi, Delhi); 2016 (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh); and 2021 (Bhubaneswar, Odisha).

·         Started in 1979, the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup is held every 2 years and the competitors must be under the age of 21 as of December 31 in the year before the tournament is held.

·         The last edition of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup was held in 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the tournament was won by Germany.

 

5.       MALAWI VICE PRESIDENT  DIES IN PLANE CRASH

·         Vice-President of MalawiDr Saulos Klaus Chilima, and 9 others died in an airplane crash  in the Chikangawa forest in Malawi.

·         Dr. Saulos Chilima was born on 12th February 1973 in Ntcheu District in Central Malawi.

 

6.       RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN AUTOBIOGRAPHY

·         Renowned Indian international cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin unveiled his autobiography titled, “I Have the Streets: A Kutti Cricket Story,” written by Ravichandran Ashwin with author Sidharth Monga, a sitcom screenplay writer, a wrestling booker, and a chef.

·         Ravichandran Ashwin is an offspinner who also plays for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) (at present) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

 

7.       NITI AAYOG LAUNCHED TWO INITIATIVES

·         National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) launched the “AIM-ICDK Water Challenge 4.0” and the 5th edition of “Innovations for You” under its flagship program, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

·         It is the 4th edition of the open innovation water challenge. 

·         AIM developed this initiative in partnership with the Innovation Centre Denmark (ICDK) at the Royal Danish Embassy in India.

·         It aims to address the critical water-related challenges through innovative solutions.

·         The Water Challenge encompasses the 5 S’s in the Green Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark – Skills, Scale, Scope, Sustainability, and Speed.

·         The participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their innovations at the Digital Tech Summit which is scheduled to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark

·         Innovations for You  is a coffee table book series which highlights the endeavors of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Entrepreneurs in India.

·         Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)  is the flagship program of Government of India (GoI) launched in 2016, which aims to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship using digital tools under the aegis of NITI Aayog .

8.       WORLD’S TOP 100 MOST VALUABLE BRANDS

·         According to the Kantar BrandZ, “2024 World’s Most Valuable Brands” report, 4 Indian companies namely, Tata Consultancy Service (TCS), HDFC Bank, Airtel and Infosys were featured among the top 100 most valuable global brands.

·         TCS emerged India’s most valuable brand by securing a rank at 46th spot  with total valuation of USD 44.8 billion.

·         Apple retained its 1st position for the 3rd consecutive time and has also become the 1st global brand to surpass USD 1 trillion in value with total valuation of USD 1016 billion.

 

9.       ‘BEST CONDUCT OF BUSINESS REGULATOR’ AWARD

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has been honoured with the ‘Best Conduct of Business Regulator‘ Award in the Asia Pacific by the Asian Banker for its focus on transparency, fairness, and investor protection in the securities markets in India.

·         Kamlesh Chandra Varshney, Whole Time Member of SEBI received the award at the ceremony held during the Asian Banker Summit 2024 held in Hong Kong.

·         The theme of the summit was “Bridging innovation and resilience in finance”.

 

10.    CM OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH

·         Pema Khandu of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Arunachal Pradesh (AR) for the 3rd consecutive term at a ceremony held at Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall in Itanagar, AR.

·         Chowna Mein took oath as the deputy CM of AR.

·         The Oath was administered by Lt Gen (Retd) Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, Governor of AR.

 

11.    AJIT DOVAL REAPPOINTMENTS NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the reappointment of Ajit Kumar Doval as the National Security Advisor (NSA) and Pramod Kumar (PK) Mishra as the Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister (PM) of India

·         Ajit Doval has been serving as the NSA since 30 May 2014 and has been appointed three consecutive times for the post.

·         PK Mishra has been serving as the Principal Secretary to the PM since September 2019.

·         Ajit Doval, was actively involved in the anti-insurgency operations in Punjab and Mizoram and was titled the ‘Indian James Bond’.

·         He has served as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) from 2004 to 2005.

12.    INDIAN ARMY GETS 1ST INDIGENOUS LM NAGASTRA-1

·         The Indian Army has received the first batch of Indigenous man-portable suicide drones also known as the 1st Indigenous Loitering Munition (LM), Nagastra–1, with the capability of precise strikes on enemy training camps and launch pads, minimising risks to soldiers.

·         Nagastra–1 is designed and developed by Economics Explosives Ltd (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries Nagpur (Maharashtra), in association with Z-Motion Autonomous Systems Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, Karnataka, with over 75% indigenous content.

·         Nagastra-1 is a fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), weighing 9 kilograms (kg), with an endurance of 60 minutes, a man-in-loop range of 15 kilometers (km), and an autonomous mode range of 30 km.

13.    USA CONDUCTED OPERATIONAL TEST LAUNCH OF MINUTEMAN III ICBMS

·         A joint team of the United States (US) Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSCAirmen supported by the US Space Force Guardians launched an unarmed Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) equipped with one re-entry vehicle from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, USA.

·         The 2 Minuteman III ICBMS in these tests were launched into suborbital space with a rocket engine before releasing their re-entry vehicles back through Earth’s atmosphere.

 

14.    CRATERS ON MARS NAMED AFTER INDIAN PHYSICIST AND TOWNS

·         The Working Group Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named three newly discovered craters on Mars as ‘Lal’ crater, ‘Mursan’ crater and ‘Hilsa’ crater.

·         These three craters have been discovered on Mars located within the Tharsis volcanic region (largest volcanic region on Mars) by Ahmedabad-based Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), a unit of the Department of Space (DoS) in 2021.

·         Lal crater: It has been named in honour of Professor Devendra Lal, Indian physicist, former director of PRL (1972 to 1983).

·         Mursan crater: It has been named after Mursan town in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh (UP). It is 10 km wide and superimposed on the eastern side of the rim of the Lal crater.

·         Hilsa crater: It has been named after Hilsa town in Nalanda district of Bihar. It is 10 km wide and superimposed on the western side of the rim of the Lal crater.

 

15.    WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2024 – JUNE 14

·         World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is annually observed across the globe on 14 June to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and express gratitude to voluntary, unpaid blood donors.

·         The 2024 theme/slogan of WBDD is, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you, blood donors!

·         The host country of the WBDD 2024 is Perú.

 

16.    SEBI INTRODUCES PENALTY FRAMEWORK FOR SURVEILLANCE LAPSES     

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) came out with a framework on “financial disincentives” for market infrastructure institutions that would impose a penalty ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹1 crore for each instance of surveillance lapse during the financial year.

·         First Instance:Penalty ranges from ₹1 lakh (annual revenue < ₹300 crore) to ₹25 lakh (annual revenue > ₹1,000 crore).

·         Second Instance:Penalty ranges from ₹2 lakh to ₹50 lakh.

·         Third Instance Onwards:Penalty ranges from ₹4 lakh to ₹1 crore.

 

17.    NVIDIA PASSES APPLE AS THE WORLD'S SECOND-MOST VALUABLE COMPANY

·         Nvidia has surpassed Apple in market capitalization, becoming the second-most valuable public company, behind Microsoft.

·         Nvidia is the world's most valuable semiconductor company and the first computer chip firm to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization.

 

18.    SUMIT NAGPAL SECURES SIXTH ATP CHALLENGER TENNIS TITLE

·         Indian men’s tennis player Sumit Nagpal clinched the men’s singles title at the Heilbronn Neckarcup 2024 ATP Challenger Tennis tournament in Germany.

·         In the final showdown Nagpal beat Alexander Ritschard of Switzerland

 

19.    INDIA EXIM BANK) OPENS EAST AFRICA REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE IN NAIROBI

·         India Exim Bank) has inaugurated its East Africa Representative Office in Nairobi.

·         The objective is to expand India's business presence in Africa, particularly in resource-rich and demographically young regions.

·         Apart from Nairobi, the Bank has offices in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and Johannesburg, South Africa.

·         Export-Import Bank of India serves as India's premier financial institution for coordinating export and import financing.

 

20.    WHO UNVEILS 1ST PATIENT SAFETY RIGHTS CHARTER

·         The World Health Organization (WHO) unveiled its inaugural Patient Safety Rights Charter at the Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety.

·         Encompassing 10 pivotal patient safety rights, the Charter aims to mitigate risks and prevent unintended harm.

·         The 6th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety was hosted by Chile's Government in Santiago from April 17–18, 2024.

 

21.    FTA IMPOSES RS 1.66 CRORE FINE ON AXIS BANK

·         The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has imposed a fine of over Rs 1.66 crore on Axis Bank for its failure to detect and report suspicious transactions related to a fraudulent account created in the name of the National Security Guard (NSG).

·         The penalty was issued under Section 13 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

·         Financial Intelligence Unit—India (FIU-IND) : Formed : November 18, 2004

·         FIU-IND is an organisation under the Department of Revenue, Government of India which collects financial intelligence about offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

 

22.    UTTRAKHAND'S JOSHIMATH IS NOW JYOTIRMATH AGAIN

·         The mythological city of Joshimath in Uttarakhand has been officially renamed Jyotirmath.

·         The decision was announced by the state government after getting approval from the Centre.

·         Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced to change of the official name of Joshimath tehsil in Chamoli district to its historical title, Jyotirmath.a
