1.         CHAIRPERSON OF NABH

·           Rizwan Koita, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Director of the Koita Foundation (KF) has been appointed Chairperson of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).

·           NABH, a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (QCI), sets benchmarks for quality and accredits healthcare organizations.

·           NABH Headquarters– New Delhi, Delhi

·           NABH, as an organisation, has been accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (lSQua) and it is also its Institutional Member.

 

2.         INDIA’S 1ST LOITERING AERIAL MUNITIONS FOR ARMED FORCES

·           Kadet Defence Systems(P) Limited (KDS) has introduced India’s 1st pioneering Loitering Aerial Munitions (LAM) for the Indian Armed Forces.

·           It was developed under a unique Development cum Production Partner(DCPP) model with the Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO).

·           LAM system encompasses cutting-edge technologies such as: Canister Aerial Loitering Munition (CALM), Combat Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs) with stand-off capabilities and Tactical Vertical Takeoff& Landing (VTOL) UAVs.

·           LAMs boast adaptability to various terrains and altitudes (From deserts to plains, and even high-altitude regions surpassing 5000 meters).

·           KDS’s LAMs can serve as both combat UAVs capable of precision strikes and Kamikaze drones for targeted engagements, reminiscent of cruise missiles.

 

3.         CHINA LARGEST TRADING PARTNER OF INDIA IN FY24

·           As per the data  published by think tank Global Trade Research Initiative(GTRI)China emerged as the largest trading partner of India with USD 118.4 billion two way commerce in FY24 (2023-24). 

·           The United States of America(U.S.A.) with USD 118.3 billion was the 2nd largest trading partner of India in 2023-24.

·           For FY24, China replaced the U.S.A. to become India’s largest trading partner after a gap of 2 years.

·           The U.S.A. was India’s top trading partner during FY22 and FY23.

·           The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) with USD 83.6 billion, was the 3rd largest trading partner of India in FY24, then followed by Russia(USD 65.7 billion), Saudi Arabia (USD 43.4 billion), and Singapore (USD 35.6 billion).

 

4.         CHAIRMAN OF IFFCO

·           The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has re-elected Dileep Sanghani as its Chairman during the 15th Representative General Body (RGB) elections for its Board of Directors at IFFCO Sadan, New Delhi

·           Balvir Singh has been retained as the Vice Chairman of IFFCO.

·           IFFCO, a leading fertilizer company, is the world’s number one cooperative

5.         PUNJABI POET SURJIT PATAR PASSED AWAY

·           Padma Shri Awardee Surjit Singh Hunjan, a renowned Punjabi poet known by his pen name ‘Surjit Patar’ passed away at the age of 79 in Ludhiana, Punjab.

·           He was born on 14th January 1945 in Pattar Kalan village, Jalandhar, Punjab.

·           Surjit Singh Hunjan has translated the three tragedies of Federico Garcia Lorca, Girish Karnad’s play Nagmandala, and poems of Bertolt Brecht and Pablo Neruda into Punjabi.

·           He has also wrote television scripts on Punjabi poets like Sheikh Farid and Shiv Kumar Batalvi.

·           He also served as the president of Punjabi Sahit Akademi and president of the Punjab Arts Council.

·           Some of his notable poetic works: ‘Birkh Arz Kare’ (Thus Spake the Tree), ‘Patjhar Di Pazeb’ (Anklet of Autumn), ‘Lafzaan Di Dargah’(Shrine of Words) and ‘Surzameen'(Music Land).

·           He received Padma Shri in 2012 for his contributions to literature and education.

·           He was awarded ‘Gyani Gurmukh Singh Musafir Poetry Award’ by Language department,Patiala, Punjab in 1980 for his work ‘‘HawaVichLikheHarf’(Words written in the Air),

·           He also got ‘Kartar Singh Dhaliwal’ Award by Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana in 1985 and Bhartiya Sahit Akademi, New Delhi in 1993 for ‘‘HanereVichSulagdiVaranmala’(Words Smouldering in the Dark).

·           He also got ‘Shiromni Punjabi Kavi’ Award by Language department,  Patiala, Punjab in 1997.

·           He also received other prestigious awards like Saraswati Samman by K.K.Birla foundation (2009), Panchnad Puruskar by Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad (1999), Kusumagraj Literary Award (2014).

 

6.         HOLLYWOOD FILM PRODUCER & DIRECTOR ROGER CORMAN PASSED AWAY

·           Roger William Corman, an American film producer, director, and actor passed away at 98 in Santa Monica, California, the United States of America (USA).

·           In 2009, he was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Academy Award (Oscar) for his unparalleled contribution to nurturing aspiring filmmakers, surpassing the impact of any film school.

·           He started directing films in 1955 and got his first producer credit on “The Fast and the Furious” (1955).

·           Frankenstein Unbound (1990, Director, Producer); Galaxy of Terror (1981, Producer); Death Race 2000 (1975, Producer); and Big Bad Mama (1974, Producer).

 

7.         NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY 2024 – MAY 11 

·           National Technology Day is annually observed across India on 11 May to honour the remarkable achievements of the nation’s scientists, engineers, innovators, and others involved in the field of Science and Technology

·           This Day also commemorates the anniversary of the successful nuclear test (Pokhran II) in Pokhran, Rajasthan under the assigned code name Operation Shakti in 1998.

·           The 2024 event was celebrated under the themePromoting Clean and Green Technologies for a Sustainable Future‘.

·           The then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee designated the 11 May of every year as the National Technology Day in 1998, to commemorate the Pokhran II nuclear tests conducted by the Indian Army.

 

8.         INDIAN AI PLATFORM HANOOMAN LAUNCHES IN 98 GLOBAL LANGUAGES

·           3AI Holding Limited and SML India, announced the launch of ‘Hanooman’, India’s homegrown multilingual GenAI platform in 98 global languages, including 12 Indian languages, to build Gen AI ecosystem for India by leveraging the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.

·           The 12 Indian languages that the web version and app are currently available in include Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Sindhi.

·           It offers an open-source alternative to commercially accessible Large Language Models (LLMs).

 

9.         ISRO CONDUCTS HOT TESTING OF LIQUID ROCKET ENGINE

·           Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has accomplished the significant achievement of conducting a successful hot test of a liquid rocket engine that was produced using additive manufacturing (AM) technology.

·           The test lasted 665 seconds and involved the utilization of the PS4 engine, which is part of the PSLV upper stage.

·           AM, also known as 3D printing, involves layer-by-layer material addition to create objects from digital models, allowing for complex designs and efficient material usage.

·           The PS4 stage is the fourth, and topmost, stage of the PSLV rocket, featuring two liquid engines.

·           Each engine can produce 7.3 kiloNewtons (kN) of thrust in vacuum conditions, achieving a combined total of 14.6 kN.

·           The PS4 engine employs Earth-storable bipropellants-nitrogen tetroxide as the oxidizer and monomethyl hydrazine as the fuel, in a pressure-fed set-up.

·           It was developed by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC)

10.      ASBC ASIAN U-22 AND YOUTH BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

·           The Indian contingent won 43 medals in the ASBC Asian U22 and Youth Boxing Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan.

·           In both categories, the Indian contingent won 12 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals.

·           The Indian under-22 team finished with 21 medals including 7 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze medal

·           The youth category finished with 22 medals including 5 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze medals.

·           After the host Kazakhstan, who took home 48 medals, India finished with the second-highest number of medals.

 

11.      UWW SUSPENDS BAJRANG PUNIA FOR DOPE SAMPLE REFUSAL TO NADA

·           The world wrestling governing body United World Wrestling (UWW) has provisionally suspended Tokyo bronze medallist Bajrang Punia till 31st December 2024.

·           The UWW has cited the suspension of Bajrang Punia by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of India as the reason for the provisional suspension.

·           NADA provisionally suspended Bajrang Punia on 23 April 2024 after Bajrang Punia refused to give his sample for an anti-dope test.

·           Bajrang Punia is the first Indian wrestler to be ranked world no.1 and first to win four world championship medals.

·           He won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

·           Bajrang Punia was awarded India’s highest sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2019.

·           UWW is the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling; its duties include overseeing wrestling at the World Championships and Olympic.

12.      ASIAN TRAMPOLINE GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

·           In Trampoline, India’s Srishti Khandagale scripted history by becoming the first-ever Indian to win a medal at the Asian Trampoline Gymnastics Championships.

·           She clinched the silver medal in the Women’s Individual Age group category at the 6th Asian Trampoline Gymnastics Championship held in Hong Kong, China.

·           However, she did not qualify for the upcoming Paris Olympics, as she was competing in an age group event.

·           Kazakhstan’s Dolgopolova secured the gold medal, while Hong Kong’s S Hung won the bronze.
