 1.       WEF FUTURE OF JOBS REPORT 2023

·         According to the 4th edition of World Economic Forum’s (WEF) bi-annual survey report Future of Jobs Report 2023 Insight Report May 2023, the Indian job market is expected to expand by 22% over the next five years with top job creation from the artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data segments.

·         Globally, the job market is estimated to expand at 23%, with 69 million new jobs expected to be created over the next 5 years.

·         The study also estimates that about 83 million will be eliminated by 2027.

2.       BAFTA FELLOWSHIP

·         UK (United Kingdom) based Indian-origin actor, writer Meera Syal,  has been presented a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Fellowship, the highest accolade granted annually by the BAFTA, a world-leading independent arts charity, upon an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to films, games and/or television.

·         Meera Syal best novels are: Anita and Me’ and ‘Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee’.

 

3.       ‘MAN OF THE CENTURY’

·         A former Member of Parliament (MP) – Lok Sabha, Pandit Ramkishan was honoured with the title of Shatabdi Purush (Man of the Century) to recognise his efforts as a socialist leader during the event organised to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Madhu Limaye, a socialist ideologue and ace parliamentarian, in New Delhi, Delhi.

·         Pandit Ramkishan had actively participated in the movements launched by socialist leaders Jayaprakash Narayan and Lohia and was put behind bars several times while fighting for tribals, Dalits and the poor.

 

4.       2023 ROMA GARDEN OPEN TENNIS

·         Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal won the men’s singles title at the 2023 Roma Garden Open, a part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour 2023, defeating Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands.

·         The 2023 Roma Garden Open was held in Rome, Italy

·         Sumit Nagal is the first ever Indian to win a challenger trophy title on European clay.

 

5.       BOOK “MADE IN INDIA: 75 YEARS OF BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE”

·         Amitabh Kant, who served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) (2016-2022), has authored a new book titled “Made In India: 75 Years of Business and Enterprise” published by the Rupa Publications

·         The book coincides with India reaching a significant milestone by becoming the 5th largest economy in the world, surpassing its former colonial master, the United Kingdom (UK), after 75 years of independence.

6.       WORLD ASTHMA DAY 2023- MAY 2  

·         World Asthma Day (WAD) is annually observed across the world on the first Tuesday of May month to create awareness about asthma,

·         The theme of World Asthma Day (WAD) 2023 is “Asthma care for All”

·         World Asthma Day is annually organised by the GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma).

·         The first World Asthma Day was observed by the GINA in 1998 and it was celebrated in more than 35 countries in conjunction with the first World Asthma Meeting held in Barcelona, Spain.

7.       WORLD TUNA DAY 2023 – MAY 2

·         United Nations (UN)’s World Tuna Day is annually observed across the globe on May 2 to raise awareness about the importance of tuna and to promote more sustainable fishing practices.

·         The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/71/124 on 7th December 2016 and proclaimed May 2 of every year as World Tuna Day.

 

8.       AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIWAS 2023 – APRIL 30

·         Ayushman Bharat Diwas is annually observed across India on April 30 to emphasise the importance of healthcare facilities for all citizens of India.

·         The day is celebrated as a part of the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.

·         Theme “Swasthya Amrit”.

·         Ayushman Bharat, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), is a flagship scheme of the Government of India (GoI), which was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

 

9.       VIVAD SE VISHWAS SCHEME FOR RELIEF TO MSMES FOR COVID-19 PERIOD

·         The Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance, has launched the scheme, ‘Vivad se Vishwas I – Relief to MSMEs’ for providing relief to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for COVID-19 period.

·         The scheme was commenced from April 17, 2023 and the last date for submission of claims is June 30, 2023.

·         Under the scheme, Ministries have been asked to refund performance security, bid security and liquidated damages deducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

10.    NITI AAYOG RELEASED ‘BEST PRACTICES IN SOCIAL SECTOR: A COMPENDIUM, 2023’

·         The NITI Aayog (National Institute for Transforming India) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released the ‘Best Practices in Social Sector: A Compendium, 2023’ which features 75 case studies which truly highlight the theme ‘Achievement@75’ at the grassroot levels.

·         Suman Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog launched the compendium in the presence of NITI Aayog Members Dr. V K Saraswat, Dr V K Paul and Dr. Arvind Virmani and B.V.R Subrahmanyam,CEO (Chief Executive Officer), NITI Aayog, and Ms Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India.

·         The compendium is a compilation of innovations in policymaking at national and state levels in 14 key social sectors such as health, education, agriculture, information technology (IT), the environment, etc.

 

11.    AIME-23: 1ST ASEAN-INDIA MARITIME EXERCISE

·         The opening ceremony of the inaugural ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-India Maritime Exercise (AIME-23) was held at the Changi Naval Base in Singapore

·         ASEAN It is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising ten Southeast Asian countries.

·         It was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by founding members Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

12.    GLOBAL FINTECH 2023: APAC TO BECOME WORLD’S TOP FINTECH MARKET BY 2030

·         According to the report titled “Global Fintech 2023: Reimagining the Future of Finance”, jointly produced by Boston Consulting Group(BCG) and QED Investors, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is expected to outpace the United States of America(USA) and become the world’s top fintech market by 2030 with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27%.

·         The fintech sector, which currently holds around 2% share of global financial services revenue, is estimated to reach USD 1.5 trillion in annual revenue by 2030 (a 6-fold growth), with banking-related fintech representing 25% all banking valuations.

 

13.    BADMINTON ASIA CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023

·         Indian pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won the men’s doubles title at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships(BAC) defeating Malaysian pair Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin. 

·         They became the first Indian men’s doubles pair to win the title at the BAC.

·         2023 BAC was held at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates(UAE)

·         This also marks India’s 2nd ever title at the BAC after Dinesh Khanna, who won India’s first gold, in men’s singles, at BAC in 1965.

·         Men’s singles won by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (Indonesia) defeating Loh Kean Yew(Singapore)

·         Women’s singles won by Tai Tzu-Ying(Chinese Taipei) defeating    An Se-young(South Korea)

 

14.    MAHATMA GANDHI’S GRANDSON ARUN MANILAL GANDHI PASSED AWAY

·         Mahatma Gandhi’s Grandson Arun Manilal Gandhi, the 89-year-old author and socio-political activist, passed away at Kolhapur in Maharashtra.

·         He was born to Manilal Gandhi and Sushila Mashruwala in Durban, South Africa, on 14th April 1934.

·         He is the 5th grandson of India’s legendary leader, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi).

·         Arun Gandhi along with his wife Sunanda Gandhi started the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence at the Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America (USA) in 1991.

 

15.    WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY 2023 – MAY 3

·         United Nations (UN)’s World Press Freedom Day is annually observed across the globe on May 3 to raise awareness about the importance of a free and independent press.

·         The theme of World Press Freedom Day 2023  is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for all other human rights”.

·         The observance of World Press Freedom Day on 3rd May was recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) during its 26th General Conference held in Paris, France, from 15th October to 7th November 1991.
