1. TCS IN ‘WORLD’S MOST ADMIRED COMPANIES LIST BY FORTUNE MAGAZINE

Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS) has been included in the 25th edition of FORTUNE
magazine’s list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” for 2023.
·
In the
annual ranking of corporate reputation, Apple topped the list for the
16th consecutive year, followed by a tie between Amazon and Microsoft for the
2nd spot.
2.
PM MODI APPEARS AS WORLD’S MOST POPULAR
LEADER,
·
Morning
Consult, a US-based consulting firm, reported that Prime Minister (PM) Narendra
Modi has become the most popular leader in the world for the 2nd consecutive
year, with a 78% approval rating in its Global Leader Approval Ratings.
·
He is
rated highest among the 22 countries studied, followed by Andrés Manuel
López Obrador of Mexico with an approval of 68% and and Swiss President
Alain Berset occupied the third position with 62 per cent approval rating.
·
PM
Narendra Modi received an approval rating way ahead of US President Joe Biden,
who received a 40% rating.

“NISAR”: NASA-ISRO JOINT SATELLITE TO LAUNCH
IN 2024
·
According
to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the ‘NASA-ISRO Synthetic
Aperture Radar (NISAR)’ will be launched from Indian soil in the first
quarter of 2024, and science operations will commence 90 days after it reaches
the intended orbit.
·
NISAR
is a Low-Earth orbit (LEO) observatory being developed jointly by National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), United States (US) and ISRO, India.
·
The
NISAR Observatory will be launched on the expendable Geosynchronous Satellite
Launch Vehicle (GSLV) contributed by ISRO from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre
SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh), India’s Spaceport on the
southeast coast of the Indian peninsula.

The
anticipated launch readiness date is January 2024.
·
NISAR,
the joint NASA-ISRO Earth-observation mission, will map the entire globe in 12 days and
provide reliable spatial and temporal data for analyzing changes in Earth’s
ecosystems.
·
This
would be the first mission using advanced sweep Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technique
for dual-frequency radar imaging in the L-band and S-band.

KHELO INDIA WINTER GAMES-2023
·
The Mascot,
Theme Song, and Jersey for the 3rd edition of the Khelo India Winter Games were
launched by Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports
·
The 3rd
edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, a 5-day event, is scheduled to be held
from 10-14 February 2023 in Gulmarg, Jammu, and Kashmir.
·
Mascot:
The Snow Leopard
depicts the vibrant heritage of the Himalayas.

WORLD CANCER DAY 2023 – FEBRUARY 4
·
World
Cancer Day (WCD) is annually observed across the globe on February 4 to raise
awareness towards cancer and to encourage its identification, prevention, and
treatment.
·
The
campaign theme of
World Cancer Day 2022-2024 is “Close the care gap”.
·
The
Campaign theme of World Cancer Day 2023 is “Close the care Gap: Uniting our voices and taking action”.
·
It was
initiated on 4th February 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New
Millennium in Paris, France.

INDIA, FRANCE & UAE TO CO-OPERATE UNDER
TRILATERAL FRAMEWORK
·
India,
France, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have announced an ambitious roadmap
for cooperation in a wide range of fields, including defence, energy, and
technology under a trilateral framework.
·
A
number of trilateral events will be organized to assist the efforts during the
G20 Presidency of India and the hosting of 28th session of the Conference of
the Parties (COP 28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC) by the UAE in 2023, respectively.
·
The
three nations also decided to enhance their cooperation through projects like
the Indo-Pacific Parks Partnership, headed by India & France, and the
Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC), led by the UAE.
·
In the
context of the International Year of the Millet 2023, the three
countries decided to focus on major concerns like single-use plastic pollution,
desertification, and food security.
7.
‘SAVE WETLANDS CAMPAIGN’ LAUNCHED A
·
Union
Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav,
launched the ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’, a 1 yearcampaign
structured on a “whole of society” approach for wetlands conservation, during
the National level Celebration of World Wetlands Day at Nanda Lake in Goa.
·
During
the event, The “India’s 75 Amrit Dharohar- India’s Ramsar Sites Factbook” and
“Managing Climate Risks in Wetlands – A Practitioner’s Guide” booklets were
also released.
8.
IAF REVISES ITS DOCTRINE
·
The Indian
Air Force (IAF) made public a revised doctrine which defines the role of air
power in the “no war, no peace scenario” setting in India.
·
The
doctrine highlighted the use of air power as part of a joint military strategy
involving the two other forces.
·
The
doctrine, which refers to air power as aerospace power, also emphasised that defensive and offensive
counter-operations are “inextricably linked”.
·
The IAF
first published a doctrine in 1995, which was revised in 2007. In 2012, a
revised and unclassified basic doctrine was published. The latest doctrine
revises the 2012 document.
9.
SEBI NOTIFIES STRONGER FRAMEWORK FOR GREEN
BONDS
·
The
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), India’s capital market
regulator, has strengthened the green bond framework by introducing “Blue”
and “Yellow” bonds as new modes of sustainable finance.
·
These
bonds are subcategories of Green Debt Securities (GDS), with ‘Blue Bonds’
pertaining to water management and the marine sector and ‘Yellow Bonds’
pertaining to solar energy.
·
Green
Debt Securities (GDS)-According
to the regulatory framework, GDS are debt securities that are issued to
raise funds for projects or assets that belong into specific categories.
·
Sustainable
finance is the process of
taking environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into account when
making financial investment decisions, resulting in increasing long-term
investments in sustainable economic activities and projects.

INDIAN ACHIEVERS AWARD 2022

Vishnu Prassad,
Founder and Chief Scientist at Vishnu Prasad Research Centre was awarded “The
Most Distinguished Scientist of the Year 2022” at the Indian Achievers
Award 2022 by Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting at
Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi.

He was
recognised for working tirelessly on sustainability, smart cities, and a vision
to create a clean India through solid waste management and the treatment of
huge water bodies.

Vishnu Prassad, a scientist from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with 69 patents, has
published over 300 research papers in International journals and has been awarded
several patents for his inventions.
·
The
Indian Achievers Award is India’s most prestigious award and a prestigious recognition that is given
to individuals for outstanding contributions in various fields including
culture, science, sports and innovation.

NEW BALANCE INDOOR GRAND PRIX 2023:
·
Indian
High Jumper Tejaswin Shankar won the gold medal in men’s high jump
event with a leap of 2.26 metres at the 2022 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix,
a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Series event, held in Boston, United States of
America(USA).
·
In
2018, Tejaswin Shankar set India’s indoor high jump record at 2.28 metres. He
also holds the national record for men’s outdoor high jump in India with 2.29
metres.
·
He won
the bronze in Men’s high jump at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games(CWG) and
became the first Indian to win a CWG medal in the sport.

GENERAL PERVEZ MUSHARRAF (RETD) PASSED AWAY
·
Pervez
Musharraf, Former President of Pakistan (2001-2008) and retired General, passed
away at the age of 79 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
·
Pervez
Musharraf was born on 11th August 1943 in Delhi, British India (now New Delhi,
Delhi, India).
·
Pervez
Musharraf was known as the architect of the 1999 conflict in Kargil.
·
General
Pervez Musharraf, then-Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff Committee, led a coup against PM Nawaz Sharif and became head of
government.
·
In
2001, he appointed himself as the President of Pakistan and served till 2008.
·
In 2002,
he amended the constitution 29 times, giving himself the authority to dismiss
parliament and remove the PM.
·
He was
charged with high treason and given a death sentence in 2019 for
suspending the Constitution. To avoid criminal charges against him in Pakistan,
he lived in self-imposed exile in the UAE, since 2016.
·
He
published his autobiography titled “In the Life of Fire: A Memoir”
in 2006.
