BANGLADESH PM SHEIKH HASINA VISIT TO INDIA
·
In September
2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was on a four-day
visit to India and held bilateral talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi to review
and further strengthen the relationship between both countries.
·
Both sides looked forward to the early
launch of the jointly-produced film on Bangabandhu (Mujib: the Making of a
Nation).
·
During the meeting Seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India
and Bangladesh in the areas of railways, science and technology, space
technology and broadcasting.
·
Both nations decided to open north east
border for trade, and transit.
·
This will not only boost north eastern
states in India, but also benefits Bangladesh by providing a gateway to South
East Asia.
2.
RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP FOR AYURVEDA – SPARK
·
The
Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS),
will offer research fellowship to young undergraduate (UG) students enrolled in
recognized ayurveda colleges across India under the ‘Studentship Program for
Ayurveda Research Ken’ (SPARK) initiative.
·
The
SPARK Program will support the innovative ideas of young UG students and will
promote evidence based scientific research in the field of Traditional
Medicine.
·
The
selected fellows will be offered a financial support of Rs 50,000 under the
fellowship for 100 students initially.
3.
PRESIDENT OF ANGOLA REELECTED
·
Angola’s
incumbent President Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço won a second term as
the President of Angola after his party, the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) party, was
declared the winner of Angola’s general election.
·
MPLA won 51.17 % of the ballots against
43.95 % for the main challenger, the National Union for the Total Independence
of Angola (UNITA).

4.
TARAGIRI - 5TH STEALTH FRIGATE OF PROJECT 17A
LAUNCHED
·
The
5th stealth frigate of the Indian Navy’s (IN) Project 17A
namely ‘Taragiri’ was launched in Mumbai, Maharashtra by Mazagon Dock
Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL).
·
It
is named after a hill range in the Himalayas located in Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
·
It was designed by the Indian Navy’s
in-house design organisation Directorate of Naval Design (DND)
in New Delhi (Delhi), while its detailed design and construction was overseen
by the MDL, along with Warship Overseeing Team (Mumbai).
·
Taragiri will have state-of-the-art
weapons, sensors, an advanced action information system,
·
It is fitted with a supersonic
surface-to-surface missile system .
·
P17A Ships are guided-missile
frigates, which are follow-on classes of the P17 (Shivalik Class)
Frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and
platform management systems.
·
The total value of Project 17A is
around Rs 50,000 Crore.
·
Under this, Seven P17A Frigates are being built- 4 at MDL and 3 at Garden Reach
Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). These are named as Nilgiri, Himgiri,
Udaygiri, Dunagiri, Taragiri, Vindhyagiri and Mahendragir i e. after the names
of hill ranges in India.

Circuit in Monza, Italy

MOUNTAIN BICYCLE WORLD CUP 2022 HELD IN LEH

Ladakh
Police in collaboration with the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh
and Cycling Association of India organized the first ever Mountain Bicycle
(MTB) World Cup- UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup 2022 in Leh, Ladakh.

The
event took place at the height of over 12 thousand feet to sea level.
·
Twenty
international, 55 national and local cyclists participated in this world cup
competition.
·
German
cyclists stood first in both men and women categories.

NATIONAL FOREST MARTYRS DAY 2022 – SEPTEMBER 11

The National Forest Martyrs
Day is annually observed across India on 11th September to
honour people who gave their lives to preserve India’s forests and wildlife.

IIT-MADRAS BECOMES 1ST INDIAN INSTITUTION TO JOIN NY-BASED
IBM QUANTUM NETWORK
·
The
Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has become
the 1st Indian
educational institution to join the New York (NY)-based International Business Machines
(IBM) Quantum Network to promote and advance quantum computing skills
development and research in India.
·
IIT-M is to join a network total of 180
global members in the IBM Quantum Network.
·
The network includes about 53 academic
institutes from across the world.
·
IIT-M will receive cloud-based
access to IBM’s advanced quantum computing systems and IBM’s quantum expertise.
10.
JIMEX 2022: INDIA AND JAPAN JOINT NAVAL EXERCISE
·
The sixth edition of
Japan India Maritime Exercise 2022 (JIMEX 22) was hosted by the
Indian Navy and it commenced in the Bay of Bengal.
·
The Indian Navy was represented by three
indigenously designed and built warships; INS Sahyadri, a
multi-purpose stealth frigate and Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes INS
Kadmatt and INS Kavaratti.
·
JIMEX
22 exercise involves 2 Phases that includes one at
sea and another is the harbour phase at Visakhapatnam.
11.
INDIA TO HOLD G20 PRESIDENCY FOR 1 YEAR
·
India
will assume the Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) for a span of 1 year with
effect from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.
·
India will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in
New Delhi on 09 and 10 September 2023.
·
The G20 is an intergovernmental forum (IGF) of the world’s major developed and developing economies which
comprises 19 countries
and the European Union (EU).
·
Currently, India is a part of the G20
Troika (current, previous and incoming G20 Presidencies) comprising Indonesia,
Italy and India.

ILO REPORT: MODERN SLAVERY ON THE RISE
·
According
to the “Global
Estimates of Modern Slavery-Forced Labour and Forced Marriage,” released
by the International Labour Organization (ILO), there were approximately 50
million (49.6 million) people living in modern slavery on any given day in
2021, up from 40 million in 2016 and a 25% increase over the last 5 years.
·
Of these people, 22 million were trapped
in forced marriages and nearly 28 million (27.6 million) were subjected to
forced labour.
·
Modern Slavery refers to a set of
specific legal concepts, such as forced labour, concepts related to forced
labour (such as debt bondage, slavery, and slavery like practices and human
trafficking), and forced marriage.
·
Upper-Middle Income or High-Income
countries account for more than half (52%) of all forced labour and a quarter
of all forced marriages.
·
The number of people who are forced to
work has increased by 2.7 million between 2016 and 2021.

INDIA & MADAGASCAR SIGNED MOU ON TRAINING OF DIPLOMATS
·
India
and Madagascar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the training of
diplomats between India and Madagascar.
·
The
agreement was signed between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service
(SSIFS) under the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) of India and the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MOFA) of Madagascar.
·
The
agreement helps in enhancing cooperation between India and Madagascar to
facilitate better training of diplomats.
·
The
Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) is the civil service
training institute where Indian Foreign Service officers are trained.
·
The
institute functions under the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of
India.

INDIA TO BECOME 3RD LARGEST ECONOMY BY 2029: SBI ECOWRAP
REPORT
·
As
per the report by the State Bank of India (SBI) Research Ecowrap, India is set
to become the world’s 3rd largest economy by 2029.
·
The
report was released by SBI’s Economic Research Department (ERD).
·
It is likely to surpass Germany in 2027
and Japan by 2029 at the current growth rate.
·
The report is authored by Soumya
Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Adviser, SBI.
·
In Q1 FY23, India registered GDP (Gross
Domestic Product) growth at 13.5%.
·
At this rate India is likely to be the
fastest growing economy in FY23.
·
India has already surpassed the size of
the United Kingdom (UK) economy in December 2021 to become the 5th largest
economy globally.

QIMINGXING-50: CHINA’S 1ST SOLAR-POWERED
DRONE CUM SATELLITE
·
China
has successfully tested its first fully solar-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
(UAV)/drone namely ‘Qimingxing-50′ or Morning
star-50 which can fly uninterrupted for months and can function
even as a satellite if required.
·
It
is also referred to as a ‘High Altitude Platform Stations’ or a pseudo
satellite.
·
It is China’s first large-sized UAV
powered only by solar energy.
·
It can fly continuously for long periods
at an altitude of 20 km above the earth’s surface.
·
The United States (US) and the United
Kingdom (UK) are among the nations that have built solar-powered drones that
can fly as high as 20 km up in the sky. In July, 2022, the US army tested a
solar-powered, near-space Airbus Zephyr S drone that
set a new record by being airborne for 64 days.

BOOK “WILL POWER” BY SJOERD MARIJNE
·
Sjoerd
Marijne, former Dutch field hockey player and former Indian Women’s
Hockey authored a new book titled “Will Power : The Inside Story of the
Incredible Turnaround in Indian Women’s Hockey”.
·
Sjoerd Marijne was appointed the chief coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey
Team in 2017 and later, he was given charge of the Men’s Hockey Team in
September 2017.
·
In
May 2018, he was again appointed as the Coach of the Women’s Hockey and he
guided the team to a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
