1. INDIA
& MALAYSIA BILATERAL AIR EXERCISE – UDARASHAKTI
·
India & Malaysia concluded
the four-day military exercise
‘Udarashakti’, which was between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and
the host country Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
·
The
exercise held at the RMAF Air Base Kuantan, Malaysia.
·
Both the
Air forces flew seven aircraft in formation during the ceremony.
·
India and
the Federation of Malaya, which would later become Malaysia, established
diplomatic relations in 1957, from when both the countries have also improved
their defence ties.
·
The IAF contingent will next travel to Darwin, Australia, for Exercise
Pitch Black 22, which will be conducted at the Royal Australian
Air Force of Australia (RAAF).
2. SCOTLAND
BECOMES FIRST COUNTRY TO MAKE PERIOD PRODUCTS FREE FOR ALL
·
The Scottish government became
the 1st
country in the world to legally protect the right to
access free period products by passing a law, the Period Products (Free
Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021
·
Under the new law, schools, colleges and
universities including local government bodies must make a range of period
products available for free in their bathrooms.
·
New Zealand and Kenya distributes
period products for free in public schools.
·

3. RATAN
TATA UNVEILS THE STARTUP ‘GOODFELLOWS’ FOR SENIOR CITIZEN
·
Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has
unveiled the new start-up ‘Goodfellows’ which provides
companionship to senior citizens staying alone through young, educated
graduates.
·
Goodfellows
was founded by Shanthanu Naidu, the General Manager at the Office of RNT (Ratan
Naval Tata).
·
‘Goodfellows’ has taken 6 months
of time to complete a successful trial and soon will be available in Mumbai
with Pune, Chennai and Bangalore as next target.
4. WORLD
SANSKRIT DAY 2022- AUGUST 12
·
World
Sanskrit Day, also known
as Vishva-Samskrita-dinam and Sanskrit
Diwas, is annually observed on ‘SawanPoornima’
to create awareness, promote and revive Sanskrit, one of the ancient Indian
languages.
·
It is annually celebrated on Poornima day
(Full Moon) of the Shraavana month in the Hindu calendar.
·
Sanskrit,
in literary terms is divided into two different periods- the Vedic and
Classical. Vedic Sanskrit is mainly a part of the Rig Veda, the Upanishads and
the Puranas.
·
The Vedas
were composed from 1,000 to 500 BCE.
·
Sanskrit
is one of the oldest languages to exist in the World.
·
Sanskrit
is also known as the ‘Language of the Gods’ and the day is celebrated across
the country to pay respect to this language.
·
Sanskrit
is already having a special status in India under Article 351 and Sanskrit was
declared as a classical language in the year 2005.
·
Currently
there are 6 languages with ‘Classical’ status in India: Tamil (declared in
2004), Sanskrit (2005), Kannada (2008), Telugu (2008), Malayalam (2013), and
Odia (2014).
·
All the
Classical Languages are listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
·
In 2020,
the Uttarakhand Government decided to develop ‘Sanskrit Grams’ across the state
to teach use of Sanskrit regularly.
·
A village
in the Shimoga district of Karnataka, called Mattur, is believed to have
preserved the language.
5. GOA
BECOMES 1ST ‘HAR GHAR JAL’ CERTIFIED STATE
·
Goa becomes the first ‘Har GharJal’ certified
State while Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (D&NH and D&D)
becomes the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified Union Territory (UT) in India.
·
All 2.63
lakh rural households of Goa & 85,156 of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman
& Diu have access to potable water through tap connection.
·
‘Har Ghar
Jal’ is under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) which is a flagship programme of
Government of India (GoI) was announced on August 15, 2019.
·
JJM aims
to make provision of potable tap water supply in adequate quantity, of
prescribed quality and on regular & long-term basis to every rural household
of the country by 2024.
6. INDIA
HANDS OVER DORNIER MARITIME SURVEILLANCE AIRCRAFT TO SRI LANKA NAVY
·
India presented a Dornier Maritime
Surveillance Aircraft (Dornier 228) to the Sri Lanka Navy in
the presence of Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Sri Lanka, during a
special ceremony conducted at the Sri Lanka Airforce base in Katunayake,
Sri Lanka.
·
The
ceremony took place as India marked the 75th anniversary of its independence.
·
The Dornier aircraft has been handed over by India just a day before the
Chinese ship ‘Yuan Wang 5’ docks in the southern port of Hambantota in Sri
Lanka.
7. RBI
CANCELS LICENCE OF DECCAN URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled
the licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Vijayapur, Karnataka as it does not
have adequate capital and earning prospects.
·
The bank is prohibited from conducting the ‘business of
banking’ as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the
Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with immediate effect.
·
As per
the data, more than 99 percent of the depositors are entitled to receive
the full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee
Corporation (DICGC).
·
On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit
insurance claim amount up to a monetary ceiling of Rs. 5 Lakh from
DICGC subject to the provisions of DICGC Act, 1961.
·
RBI has also
imposed a penalty of Rs. 5,93,000 on Obopay
Mobile Technology India Private Limited for non-compliance with
certain provisions of norms on Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) and Know Your
Customer (KYC).
8. WORLD
HUMANITARIAN DAY 2022- AUGUST 19
·
The United Nations (UN)’s World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is
observed annually on August 19 to commemorate the
humanitarian workers who have committed their lives to help others in the most
extreme circumstances around the world.
·
World Humanitarian Day is a campaign by
the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian
Affairs (UN OCHA).
9. WORLD
PHOTOGRAPHY DAY 2022- AUGUST 19
·
WorldPhotography
Day is annually celebrated across the globe on 19th
August to celebrate the art of Photography.
·
The day commemorates the tremendous growth
attained by the photography industry.
·
The theme for
World Photography Day 2022 is“Pandemic Lockdown Through The Lens”.
·
The first photographic process named Daguerreotype was
formally declared to the world by the French Academy of Sciences on 9th January
1839.
·
On 19th
August 1839 the Government of France acquired the patent for the invention
Daguerreotype and gave it as a gift, “free to the world.”
·
Hence
every year, this day happens to be celebrated as World Photography Day.
·
The first
durable colour photograph was taken in 1861 and The first digital photograph
was taken in 1957.
·
The first
actual digital still camera was developed by Eastman Kodak engineer Steven
Sasson in 1975.
