1. “ZAYED TALWAR 2021”

      Indian Navy and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Navy undertook Bilateral Naval Exercise Zayed Talwar 2021 off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

      The Indian Navy deployed INS Kochi and 2 Integral Sea King MK 42B helicopters, whereas the UAE participated in the exercise with Al-Dhafra, a Baynunah class guided missile corvette and one AS-565B Panther helicopter.

 

2. POSTAGE STAMP ON ‘MANANIYA CHAMAN LAL’

      During an event in New Delhi on August 8, 2021, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on the Social worker and Sangh Pracharak, ‘Mananiya Chaman Lal’.

      The stamp was issued as a tribute to Unsung Heroes of India, by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications.

 

3. 1ST COUNTRY TO GRANT PATENT FOR AN INVENTION BY AI

      South Africa became the 1st Country in the World to grant Patent to an Artificial Intelligence (AI) System.

      It has granted a patent related to an Food Container system based on Fractal Geometry invented by the AI system ‘DABUS’ (Device for Autonomous Bootstrapping of Unified Sentience).

 

4. UN REPORTED ‘CODE RED’ WARNING

      The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis by the Working Group I was released.

      It addresses the most up-to-date physical understanding of the climate system, climate science, etc.

      United Nations(UN) secretary-general Antonio Guterres called the report ‘a code red for humanity’.

      The report states that if the emissions decline slowly, the temperature rise of 2°C, the limit set by the Paris Agreement will be breached by 2060.

      The report gave 5 scenarios for the future based on carbon emissions, as per it, the world will cross the 1.5° C warming mark in the 2030s, earlier than past predictions.

 

5. ‘PM-DAKSH’ PORTAL AND MOBILE APP

      Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment has launched a ‘PM-DAKSH’ Portal and ‘PM-DAKSH’ Mobile App under the scheme PM-DAKSH (Pradhan Mantri Dakshta Aur Kushalta Sampann Hitgrahi) Yojana to ease the access of skill development schemes by the target groups.

      The portal and app were developed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E), in collaboration with National e-Governance Division (NeGD).

 

6. OVERVIEW OF TOKYO 2020 SUMMER OLYMPICS

      The 32nd Edition of Olympic Games took place in Tokyo, Japan from 23rd July, 2021 – 8th August, 2021.

      India finished with 7 Medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze) and has been ranked at 48th Position.

      This was India’s highest ever medals tally in an Olympics(Previous one was 6 medals 2016 Rio Olympics)

      The US topped the Medals tally with 113 Medals (39 G, 41 S, 33 B) followed by China & Japan.

7. QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT DAY 2021

      The Quit India Movement Day is annually observed across India on 8th August to commemorate the launch of the Quit India Movement on 8th August 1942.

      The day remembers the sacrifices of the martyrs of the freedom struggle and pays homage to the freedom fighters.

      The 8th August 2021 marks the 79th anniversary of the Quit India movement.

      The day is also known as August Kranti Diwas or India August Movement since the movement was held in August.

 

8. WORLD’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES 2021 – AUGUST 9

      The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is annually observed across the globe on 9th August to recognise the contributions and achievements of the indigenous people across the globe, who have a vast diversity of unique cultures, traditions, languages and knowledge systems.

      The day is also known as “World Tribal Day”.

 

9. NAGASAKI DAY 2021 – AUGUST 9

      Nagasaki Day is annually observed across the globe on 9th August to create awareness about the hazards of nuclear power and to promote world peace.

 

10.1ST STATE TO ISSUE ORDER FOR IMPLEMENTING NEP 2020

      Karnataka government issued an order for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020 from the current academic year 2021-2022.

      It is the 1st education policy of the 21st century launched by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on 29th July 2020 by replacing the National Policy on Education, 1986 (NPE, 1986).

 

11. COLLATERAL FREE LOANS TO SHGS UNDER DAY-NRLM

      The collateral free loans to self-help groups (SHGs) provided under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) have been enhanced to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

 

12. NAVAL EXERCISE BETWEEN INDIA & SAUDI ARABIA

      The Maiden Naval Exercise “AL-MOHED AL-HINDI-2021” between Indian Navy and the Royal Saudi Naval Forces commenced.

      INS Kochi, the flagship Destroyer of the Indian Western Naval Fleet, arrived at the Port-al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia representing India.

 

13. INDIA’S 1ST HEART FAILURE BIOBANK

      India’s 1st National Heart Failure Biobank (NHFB) was inaugurated at the National Centre for Advanced Research and Excellence in HF (CARE-HF) at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

      NHFB will collect blood, biopsies, and clinical data as a guide to future therapies.

      It will provide insights into heart diseases and heart failure among Indian children and adults.

 

14. HCL BECAME THE FOURTH-LARGEST IT COMPANY

      HCL Technologies Ltd became the 4th most valuable(Market Capitalization-M Cap) India-centric information technology (IT) services company by overtaking Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation.

      Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ltd, the largest IT services company leads the list followed by Infosys Ltd and Wipro Ltd.

 

15. TRIFED’S VAN DHAN AWARDS 2020-2021

      Nagaland has won 7 Van Dhan Awards 2020-2021 for its outstanding performance in various categories.

      The state topped in 3 categories, Best Survey State, Best Training State and the most number of Van Dhan Vikas Clusters(VDVKCs).

      The awards were announced by Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, during the 34th Foundation day of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED).

 

16. NEERAJ CHOPRA APPOINTED FOR CYBER FRAUDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

      Reserve Bank of India(RBI) roped in Olympic gold medalist, Athlete (Javelin) Neeraj Chopra for its new public awareness campaign against digital banking frauds.

      As a part of the campaign, Neeraj Chopra urges people not to disclose details such as one-time password(OTP), Card Verification Value(CVV) number and ATM PIN in front of others.

 

17. BOOK-“BALAKOT AIR STRIKE: HOW INDIA AVENGED PULWAMA”

      Manan Bhatt a veteran of the Indian Navy, has authored a new book titled “Balakot Air Strike: How India Avenged Pulwama”.

      The book published by Garuda Prakashan provides a detailed account of the Pulwama terror attack in the Kashmir Valley and the subsequent Balakot Air-Strike.

 

18. WORLD BIOFUEL DAY 2021 – AUGUST 10

      World Biofuel Day is annually observed across the globe on 10th August to create awareness about the importance and significance of non-fossil fuels as a substitute for conventional fossil fuels.

      The oil and gas companies under the aegis of MoPNG, celebrate World Biofuel day with the theme “Biofuels for Sustainability and Rural Income”.

 

19. WORLD LION DAY 2021 – AUGUST 10

      World Lion Day is annually observed across the globe on 10th August to create awareness about the Lions(Panthera leo), and to educate people about the challenges faced in the conservation and protection of lions.
