1. K KASTURIRANGAN HEADS PANEL ON NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY
i. Former Indian Space Research Organisation head Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan has been appointed by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to head the committee to draft the National Education Policy.
ii. The National Policy on Education was framed in 1986 and modified in 1992. The government has now appointed a committee to draft the final policy document.
iii. HRD ministry has also chosen 8 other experts and educationists from various backgrounds.
iv. Other members include Vice-Chancellor of SNDP University, Mumbai, and educationist Vasudha Kamat; Princeton University Mathematics professor Manjul Bhargava; Retired bureaucrat J. Alphonse; Baba Saheb Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhau, Vice-Chancellor Ram Shankar Kureel; Vice-Chancelllor of Tribal University, Amarkantak, TV Kattamani; Gauhati University Persian language professor Mahzar Asif; KM Tripathy from Uttar Pradesh and Central Advisory Board on Education member M.K. Shridhar.

2. GOA CM MANOHAR PARRIKAR INAUGURATES 3 DAY MODI FEST IN PANAJI
i. Goa CM Manohar Parrikar has inaugurated the 3-day Making of Developed India Festival (MODI) Fest at Kala Academy in Panaji.
ii. It is a programme for taking the achievements of the government to the common people. Parrikar mentioned that after taking initiatives, it is also important for the government to inform people about them.
iii. The MODI Fest showcases the progress of various policies and programmes of the central government and its achievements in the last 3 years.
iv. It also includes economic and infrastructure development, budget reforms, Digital India, women empowerment, skill development for youth, financial inclusion and incentives for the farming sector.

3. WORLD BANK CLEARS $250-MILLION LOAN TO TRAIN INDIA’S JOB SEEKERS
i. The World Bank has cleared a USD 250-million loan, referred to as Skill India Mission Operation for making Indian youth more employable through reskilling.
ii. World Bank’s SIMO is a 6- year programme in support of the Indian government’s National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
iii. SIMO will be implemented through the National Skill Development Mission and will specifically target labour market entrants.
iv. Utilising funds procured through this loan will increase the market relevance of short-term skill development programmes at the national and state level.
v. Under this programme, adults in 15-59 years of age, underemployed or unemployed, will get the skill training. It will also include the 1.2 crore youngsters in the age group of 15-29 years who are entering the labour market every year.

4. MANUSHI CHHILLAR FROM HARYANA WINS THE TITLE OF MISS INDIA 2017
i. Manushi Chhillar from Haryana won Femina Miss India 2017 title. Sana Dua from Jammu and Kashmir is the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up is Priyanka Kumari from Bihar.
ii. The event was held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. Karan Johar and Riteish Deshmukh hosted the event; whereas Sonu Nigam, Sushant Singh Rajput, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor performed live on-stage to entertain the guests.
iii. Following a new format this year, the beauty pageant toured 30 states/UTs across India and young girls from various states including Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand participated in the contest.

5. J-K GOVERNOR N N VOHRA APPOINTED AS PRESIDENT OF IIC
i. Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra has been appointed the President of the India International Centre – one of the premier cultural institutions in the country.
ii. N N Vohra was appointed as the president at the Annual General Meeting which was held on June 23.
iii. The appointment was made after eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee quit the presidential post. The India International Centre is a well known non-official organisation located in New Delhi.
iv. It serves as a meeting place for the various cultural and intellectual offerings the city has to offer, while maintaining its non-official character, non-aligned motivations and remains uncommitted to any particular form of governmental, political, economic or religious affiliation

6. SPACEX SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES TWO FALCON 9 LANDINGS IN ONE WEEKEND
i. SpaceX has successfully launched and landed the 2nd Falcon 9 rocket in roughly 48 hours. It gives SpaceX two wins in its “weekend doubleheader.”
ii. It’s the company’s 9th launch of 2017, and, six months in, are the most completed by SpaceX in a single year. The rocket took off from California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base.
iii. It delivered 10 satellites into orbit for the communications company Iridium. Today’s Falcon 9 was a new one sporting larger, upgraded titanium hypersonic grid fins.
iv. SpaceX’s marks the 13th successful landing overall and its 8th at sea. The successful delivery of 10 Iridium satellites to space brought Iridium’s satellite count up to 20.

7. NOTED MALAYALAM FILMMAKER KR MOHANAN PASSES AWAY
i. Noted filmmaker K.R. Mohanan passed away. His prominent films include “Ashwathama”, “Purushartham” and “Swaroopam”.
ii. Mohanan played a key role in setting up the CPI-M-backed Kairali TV in the nineties and also headed the programme division of the channel during its formative period.
iii. K.R. Mohanan was also an accomplished documentary filmmaker. He is graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India and also headed the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy.

8. INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING
i. The 2017 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on 26 June.
ii. The theme of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was Listen First – Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.
iii. It is an initiative to increase support for prevention of drug use that is based on science and is thus an effective investment in the well-being of children and youth, their families and their communities.
iv. It was decided to observe the day and to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
