1. MAURITIUS PM PRAVIND JUGNAUTH’S 3 DAY VISIT TO INDIA
i. Mauritius Prime Minister
Pravind Jugnauth arrived in India for a 3-day official visit.
ii. India, Mauritius sign 4
agreements including bilateral maritime security: Setting up of a civil
services college in Mauritius, USD 500 million Line of Credit agreement between
the SBM Mauritius Infrastructure Development Company and Export-Import Bank of
India, Cooperation in ocean research and Maritime Security Agreement.
2. HARYANA ANNOUNCES PENSION SCHEME FOR JOURNALISTS
i. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar
Lal Khattar announced following incentives for journalists at the “Swarna
Jayanti Journalists’ Meet” in Panchkula:
ii. Rs 10,000 monthly pension
scheme, for those who are above 60 years and have completed 20 years in the
profession.
iii. A new policy would be framed
for giving recognition to representatives of online news portals.
iv. A life insurance covers of Rs
10 lakh and a cashless media claim policy of Rs 5,00,000.
v. Media persons, who have
completed five years in the profession, would be given recognition by the state
government.
3. DAILONG VILLAGE IN MANIPUR DECLARED BIODIVERSITY HERITAGE
SITE
i. The Manipur government has
declared Dailong village of Tamenglong district as a Biodiversity Heritage Site
of the state.
ii. Dialong village is declared
by Kengoo Zuringla, joint secretary of forest and environment. It has an area
of 11.35 sq km.
4. GLOBAL FORUM ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION TAKES PLACE IN MEXICO
i. 5th edition of Global Platform
for Disaster Risk Reduction took place in Cancun, Mexico.
ii. Around 4,000 participants and
delegations from over 180 countries attended this 5th edition of the Global
Platform which was held outside Geneva, Switzerland for the 1st time and hosted
and co-organised with the Mexican government.
iii. This is the first
international summit on disaster since the Sendai Framework, which was adopted
in 2015 in Japan. 6th edition of Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
will take place in 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland.
5. IOC OVERTAKES ONGC TO BECOME INDIA’S MOST PROFITABLE PSU
i. Indian Oil Corp has overtaken
Oil and Natural Gas Corp to become India’s most profitable public sector
undertaking.
ii. For financial year ended
March 31, 2017, IOC posted a net profit of Rs 19,106.40 cr, which marks a 70%
jump from previous year. This net profit figure is much higher than ONGC’s Rs
17,900 cr for financial year ended March 31, 2017.
6. MISSION XI MILLION PICKS CHANDIGARH GIRL ANANYA KAMBOJ
i. Ananya Kamboj, 8th standard
student from Chandigarh has been selected as a young journalist at the global
Football for Friendship Social Programme in Russia.
ii. She is from Vivek High
School, Mohali and has been selected to represent India. India joins the
programme for the 1st time and 60 other countries will participate.
iii. Mission XI Million is a
programme of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. It has a vision of making
football the sport of choice among the youth by bringing football to 11 million
kids.
iv. The F4F programme is
supported by Gazprom and FIFA. It will focus on the development of childrens
football, fostering tolerance and respect for different cultures and
nationalities among children from different countries.
7. JAITELY LAUNCHES AERONAUTICAL TEST RANGE IN KARNATAKA
i. Defence Minister Arun Jaitely
has launched an Aeronautical Test Range set up in Chitradurga in Karnataka. The
total cost is Rs 1,300 cr.
ii. It has been planned by the
Aeronautical Development Establishment and in collaboration with other Defence
Research and Development Organisation labs.
iii. Its main objective of building
necessary infrastructure for testing and evaluating manned and unmanned
aircraft being undertaken by aeronautic cluster labs in the DRDO. The current
length of the runway at the ATR is 2.2 km.
iv. It can be used for testing of
bigger aircraft like Airborne Early Warning & Control Systems aircraft.
v. It is meant for surveillance
and intelligence gathering, which has been inducted into Indian Air Force.
8. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH
i. The International Day of
Action for Women’s Health is observed on 28th of May.
ii. The International Day of
Action on Women’s Health is a day to call for action towards the improvisation
of women’s health.
iii. The main focus of the
International Day of Action on Women’s Health and the WGNRR lies on protecting
the sexual and reproductive health of women.
