PM MODI INAUGURATES INDIA’S LONGEST BRIDGE DHOLA-SADIYA BRIDGE IN ASSAM
i.
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest river bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya
bridge. This bridge has been named after late legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika.
Sadiya was the birth place of Bhupen Hazarika.
ii.
He also laid the foundation stone for an Indian Agricultural Research Institute
at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district of Assam.
iii.
He announced the launch of the new scheme Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and
Development of Agro-Processing Clusters.

HDFC AMONG TOP 10 CONSUMER FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPANIES GLOBALLY
i.
HDFC is the only Indian company to be named among the top 10 consumer financial
services companies in the world. HDFC was ranked 7th on the Forbes Global List
2017 in the consumer financial services sector — same as last year.
ii.
The list is topped by global major American Express. The Capital One Financial
and Visa in the 2nd and 3rd place. There are total 56 Indian companies on the
list.

2017 NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION SUMMIT HELD IN BELGIUM
i.
The 28th edition of North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit has started in
Brussels Belgium.
ii.
The top agenda of the meeting was terrorism. It is also expected that NATO is
to join the US-led anti-Islamic State coalition.
iii.
The main aim is to fight against Islamist terrorism. The 2018 NATO summit will
be held in Istanbul, Turkey.
i.
As per “FDI Report 2017”, compiled by FDI intelligence, a division of the
Financial Times, India has retained its position as world’s top greenfield
Foreign Direct Investment destination for the 2nd consecutive year. Attracting
$62.3 billion FDI inflows in 2016, India remained much ahead of China and the
US.
ii.
FDI inflows in India during 2016 increased by 2% to USD 62.3 billion, deployed
across 809 projects.
iii.
In 2016, global FDI flows gravitated to destinations experiencing the strongest
economic growth, whereas destinations going through recession/ slow down saw
major decline in FDI inflows.
5.
INDIA’S RETIREMENT SAVINGS GAP TO RISE TO $85 TN IN 2050: WEF
i.
According to World Economic Forum study the size of retirement savings gap in
India is expected to touch $85 trillion by 2050.
ii.
The savings gap is the amount of money required in each country. It includes
contributions from governments, individuals and employers.
iii.
It provides each person with a retirement income equal to 70% of their
pre-retirement income. World Economic Forum has also predict the world’s 6
largest pension saving systems the US, Japan, UK, Netherlands, Canada and
Australia are expected to reach a $224 trillion gap by 2050.
v.
The savings gap will grow fastest in China and India at growth rates of 7% and
10 per cent respectively.

EDII AND ITC BAGS PORTER PRIZE 2017
i.
Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Gujarat and ITC Ltd has won
the Porter Prize 2017.
ii.
ITC has received the prize for Excellence in Corporate Governance and
Integration and for its contribution in Creating Shared Value.
iii.
The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India has set up in 1983. It is
sponsored by apex financial institution the State Bank of India, IDBI Bank Ltd,
IFCI Ltd. ICICI Ltd.
7.
ANURAG TRIPATHY APPOINTED AS SECRETARY OF CBSE
i.
A 1998 batch officer of Indian Railway personnel Service Anurag Tripathy has
appointed the new secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education.

It is appointed by the Department of Personnel and Training. He will hold the
post for a period of five years.

AMUL THAPAR BECOMES SECOND INDIAN-AMERICAN JUDGE OF US COURT OF APPEALS
i.
Amul Thapar has appointed a judge to the Cincinnati-based 6th Circuit Court of
Appeals.
ii.
He has become only the 2nd Indian-American judge of an appeals court.
iii.
After Senate’s approval Thapar has become President Trump’s second judicial
nominee to get confirmed.

JAIDEEP MAZUMDAR APPOINTED AS THE NEXT AMBASSADOR OF INDIA TO PHILIPPINES
i.
Jaideep Mazumdar has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the
Philippines.
ii.
The 1989 batch IFS officer is presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External
Affairs.

PRESIDENT OF INDIA RECEIVE BOOKS ‘MANN KI BAAT: A SOCIAL REVOLUTION ON RADIO’
AND ‘Marching with a Billion – Analysing Narendra Modi’s Government
at Midterm’
i.
PM Mann Ki Baat’ is a unique initiative of Shri Narendra Modi to reach towards
masses across the country through the Radio. PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme
was first started on October 2014.
ii
.President Pranab Mukherjee has received the 1st copy of two books ‘Mann Ki
Baat-A Social Revolution on Radio’ and ‘Marching with a Billion-Analysing
Narendra Modi’s Government at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
iii.
Marching with a Billion- Analysing Narendra Modi’s Government at Mid-term
written by Uday Mahurkar a journalist.
iv.
The books have been released by the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajanat a
function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
v.
