1. WORLD’S HIGHEST RAIL TRACK SURVEY TO COMMENCE AT LEH
i. Indian Railways will start the final location survey of the 498 km long Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.
ii. The proposed new rail line will connect all important locations between Bilaspur and Leh namely Sunder Nagar Mandi, Keylong, Manali, Tandi, Koksar, Darcha, Upshi and Karu.
iii. Coming up at a height of 3,300 metres, the strategically important rail project is touted to become the highest rail track in the world, overtaking China’s Qinghai–Tibet Railway.
iv. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the work for the final location survey at an estimated cost of Rs 157.77 cr. Survey is funded by the defence ministry and has been entrusted to RITES, a Railways PSU.

2. 135TH JAGANNATH PURI CHARIOT FESTIVAL BEGINS IN ODISHA
i. The 135th Jagannath Yatra starts from June 25 and ends on July 3. The end of Yatra is termed as the return cart festival or BahudaJatra.
ii. The Jagannath Yatra festival will be held in Odisha. The Rath Yatra festival is related to Lord Jagannath. According to Hindu calendar, this yatra is celebrated every year on Ashadh Shukla Dwitiya.
iii. The 5000 year old chariot festival marks the return of Lord Krishna to Vrindavan with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra.
iv. This yatra includes three majestic chariots Nandighosa, Taladwaja and Darpadalan.
v. Sudarsan Pattnaik has carved beautiful art on RathYatra of Lord Jagannath at the Puri beach in Odisha with message “Let us all immerse in the spirit of unity & brotherhood”.


3. SINDHU, JUNIOR HOCKEY TEAM WINS SJFI ANNUAL AWARDS
i. The Sports Journalists Federation of India at its annual general meeting decided to confer the best Sportsperson of the Year award P V Sindhu elected to Badminton World Federation Athletes’ Commission player and Best Team of the Year award to Indian Junior Hockey Squad.
ii. P V Sindhu clinched the silver medal at Olympic Games at Rio in August 2016.
iii. The Indian junior hockey team won the Junior World Cup title by defeating Belgium in the final held at Lucknow in December 2016.
iv. Both the awards would be presented at the 40th convention of the SJFI to be held in Indore in September 2017.

4. IDFC BANK ELEVATES SUNIL KAKAR AS MD AND CEO FOR 3 YEARS
i. IDFC Ltd has announced the elevation of its CFO Sunil Kakar as the MD and Chief Executive Officer. He is appointed for 3 years.
ii. Kakar has also been appointed as additional director. The Board has approved the resignation of veteran banker Vikram Limaye from the post of MD and CEO.
iii. Vikram Limaye  is set to join leading stock exchange NSE as its new Managing Director and CEO.
iv.Sunil Kakar is responsible for finance and accounts, business planning and budgeting and investor relations, among others.
v. He had worked with Max New York Life Insurance Company since 2001 as CFO. He has also worked with Bank of America for 18 years in various roles.

5. KIDAMBIM SRIKANTH BEATS CHEN LONG TO WIN AUSTRALIA OPEN SUPER SERIES
i. Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has defeated Olympic champion Chen Long to win the Australia Open Super Series men’s singles title.
ii. Srikanth has won his career’s 4th Super Series title. This is world no 11 Srikanth’s 2nd straight title victory in a week after he won the Indonesian Open Super Series Premier last Sunday.
iii. Srikanth has become only the 5th player in the world and the 1st Indian male shuttler to contest three consecutive Super Series finals. Singapore Open, Indonesia Open and Australian Open.
iv. The Badminton Association of India announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for Srikanth after he lifted the title.

6. ANISH BHANWALA WINS STANDARD PISTOL GOLD WITH WORLD RECORD AT JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
i. Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala has won a gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Championship in the 25m Standard Pistol category in Germany.
ii. Anish had previously won a bronze medal at the Junior Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event at the 27th Meeting of the Shooting Hopes which concluded in May.
iii. The previous record was held by Denis Koulakov, who shot a score of 574 in a competition held in Finland in 2002.

7. NAIDU LAUNCHES BOOK TITLED ‘THE EMERGENCY-INDIAN DEMOCRACY’S DARKEST HOUR
i. Venkaiah Naidu has launched the book which titled The Emergency — Indian Democracy’s Darkest Hour.
ii. The book is written by Surya Prakash who is a chairman of Prashar Bharati. It was released by Union Minister for Urban Development and Information & Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani at Ahmedabad.
iii. The book was launched at a conference to mark the anniversary of the Emergency and to honour all those who fought for restoration of democracy in the country in the mid-1970s.
iv. In his speech, Naidu has mentioned that Ahmedabad was the appropriate place to release the book as anti-corruption movement Navnirman initiated in Gujarat was the cause for the emergency.
v. During the function, senior leader of the RSS Dattatreya Hosabale and senior BJP leader and MP Subramanian Swamy were present.
