1. CENTRE
LAUNCHES TRAINING PROGRAM FOR WOMEN PANCHAYAT LEADERS
i. The Centre launched a training
programme for Women Panchayat leaders to skill and administers them so that
they can give special emphasis on efficient usage of funds for achieving their
overall development.
ii. The National Commission for Women
with the help of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, has developed
training modules for empowering these elected women.
iii. They will get training under
experts from the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in
Hyderabad.
2. PM
NARENDRA MODI’S TWO DAY VISIT TO GUJARAT
i. PM Narendra Modi was on a 2-day
visit to Gujarat. During this visit, he inaugurated many projects across the
state.
ii. PM Modi inaugurated the Kiran
Multispeciality Hospital and Research Center in Surat.
iii. At Bajipura village in Tapi
district of Gujarat, PM Modi inaugurated fully automated cattle feed plant of
SUMUL Dairy. He also inaugurated an ice-cream plant and laid the foundation
stone for dairy products plant at Nava Pardi.
iii. In Botad district of Gujarat, PM
Modi inaugurated Phase-I of Link 2 pipeline canal of the ambitious
Saurashtra-Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Yojana by formally releasing the Narmada
water in Krushna Sagar Lake.

‘ADVANCED FARMING – ENRICHED FARMER’ SCHEME ANNOUNCED BY MAHARASHTRA GOVT
i. Maharashtra State Govt. has
announced ‘Advanced Farming – Enriched Farmer’ scheme, with an aim to increase
farmers’ income by cutting production cost and increasing the output.
ii. The scheme will be launched in the
upcoming kharif season. Major Tasks to be executed under ‘Advanced Farming –
Enriched Farmer’ Scheme:
iii. Raising production of major crops,
Diversification of crops, Introducing marketing techniques and Uniting farmers
through farm producers’ companies and making them financially stable.

PRESIDENT INAUGURATES GLOBAL EXHIBITION ON SERVICES IN NEW DELHI
i. President Pranab Mukherjee
inaugurated 3rd edition of the Global Exhibition on Services at Rashtrapati
Bhavan, New Delhi. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also addressed the inaugural
session. GES-2017 is being held at India
Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
ii. Its objective is to highlight
India’s potential to boost its services exports across sectors.
iii. Organisers of GES 2017 are
Ministry of Commerce and Industry together with the Confederation of Indian
Industry and Services Export Promotion Council.
iv. India’s services exports increased
from $52 billion in 2005 to $155 billion in 2015, with a share of 3.3% in global services exports.
v. India’s services trade witnessed a
surplus of $59 billion in April-February 2016-17 with imports rising 12% to $87
billion.
5. SBI
SURPASSES ONGC TO BECOME MOST VALUED PSU STOCK
i. State Bank of India surpassed ONGC
to become the most valued public sector undertaking state-owned firm in terms
of market valuation.
ii. The shares of SBI rose by 2.33% to
Rs 296.40 and ONGC lost 1.36% to Rs 180.60.
iii. SBI surged almost 16% while that
of ONGC fell by over 4%.
iv. SBI m-cap stood of Rs 239,808 cr
and ONGC having m-cap of Rs 236,003 cr.
6. PNB
LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTS FOR CUSTOMERS ON ITS FOUNDATION DAY
i. Punjab National Bank has launched 3
new products for its customers on the occasion of 123rd foundation Day.
ii. PNB MD and CEO Usha Ananthasubramanian
launched the three products that are automated electronic toll collection to
facilitate hassle-free toll payment collection, a scheme for financing a grid
connected Roof Solar Power Project and a Credit card Mobile App.
7. RBI
OPENS NEW OMBUDSMAN OFFICE FOR CHHATTISGARH AND JAMMU
i. The Reserve Bank has started a new
office at Raipur for Chattisgrah and for Jammmu. Its main aim is to look into
the grievances of residents and entities.
ii. File complaints ranging from
non-payment or delay in payment or collection of cheques/drafts, on-adherence
to prescribed working hours, failure to provide or delay in providing a banking
services, non- acceptance of small denomination notes or coins, delays or
non-credit of proceeds to parties’ accounts to non-observance of RBI’s
directives on banking services.
iii. Raipur office will have
jurisdiction over the entire state of Chhattisgarh earlier it was under the
jurisdiction of Bhopal office of the banking ombudsman.

SHAMABHAVI PURASKAR AWARDED TO MR. HARI SANKAR ROUT
i. Shambhavi Puraskar, 2017 has been
persented to Hari Sankar Rout for his noteworthy contribution towards social
change. The award was presented by Chief Guest, Rajiv Pratap Rudy – Union
Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (I/C) and Guest
of Honour Prof. Swapan Kumar Datta, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Award
Visva-Bharati University at a function held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

GURURAJA BHAT AWARD CONFERRED ON HISTORIAN A.V. NARASIMHA MURTHI
i. D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister
for Statistics and Programme Implementation, conferred the Dr. Paduru Gururaja
Bhat Memorial Award 2017 on historian and archaeologist Prof. A.V. Narasimha
Murthi in Udipi, Karnataka.
ii. A.V. Narasimha Murthi is the
Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mysuru and former Head, Department of
Ancient History and Archaeology at University of Mysore.
10. WORLD
HERITAGE DAY – APRIL 18 2017
i. World Heritage day is celebrated on
18th of April every year. It’s been chosen to tie in with the UN’s International
Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
ii. Theme of the World Heritage day was
Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism.
iii. It is celebrated to raise
awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving various sites around
the world that have achieved world heritage status.
iv. Awards have been given to
organizations or persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the
conservation and promotion of cultural heritage or produced an excellent
publication on the subject.
